The Su Yan had gotten herself thoroughly drunk. 0

Bai Ci was right; five years ago, when the Su Residence married off their daughter, people only remembered the grandeur of the occasion and the jokes that followed, forgetting the sorrow that preceded it. 0

Old Su and his wife had rushed back to the Capital City to arrange a marriage for their beloved daughter but encountered a natural disaster along the way, dying together on the road. 0

Even though the Su Residence's joyous event turned into a funeral in an instant, Old Su could not bear to see his only granddaughter mourn alone for three years. Thus, adhering to the custom that allowed a marriage to take place within a hundred days after a parent's death, he arranged for his granddaughter to be married before the hundred-day memorial for himself and his wife. 0

In just three months, the Su family had exchanged white for red multiple times, which was quite lamentable. Ultimately, it was overshadowed by the farce of "marrying off a pig" from the Su Residence and was completely forgotten. 0

The instigator of it all was none other than the Su Yan. 0

She could never forgive herself in this lifetime. 0

"If it weren't for me, how could Father and Mother have met such an untimely death? How could I be so unfilial? With Father and Mother’s bodies still unburied, how could I wear red? How could I wear wedding clothes instead of mourning attire? How could I marry at this time? How could Grandfather be so heartless? 0

Did Grandfather insist on marrying me off because he blames me for Father and Mother’s deaths? Does he wish to drive me out of the house immediately? I hate him! If Father and Mother hadn’t liked him so much, they wouldn’t have married me to him. If they hadn’t rushed back to the Capital City at this time, I wouldn’t have caused their deaths…” 0

In the end, the Su Yan could no longer distinguish whether it was the painful memories from five years ago or the strong liquor she had just consumed that tormented her. She couldn’t tell if her hoarse cries were echoes of a nightmare from five years past or a hell she couldn’t escape from now. 0

She felt deeply sinful, as if she were about to be consumed by flames or drowned by floods. Desperately, she clung to the lifeline in her hands, feeling that small warmth was her only support at that moment… 0

When she finally woke up, the Su Yan found herself back home with a splitting headache. She raised her hand to rub her temples but saw her fingers covered in broken nails and wounds, with remnants of cotton fibers stuck beneath her fingernails. 0

The pain in her fingers was indeed real, piercing through her drunken haze. 0

At that moment, a muffled groan came from the study next door, startling the Su Yan. She reluctantly threw on a robe and made her way to the study. 0

There, she found Bai Ci sprawled on the soft couch, moaning softly. 0

The Su Yan immediately understood: he was so drunk he could barely stand, and his escapade at the brothel had surely been exposed. Given the the Bai Family's reputation, he must have received quite a beating. Yet, this man was surprisingly resilient, tough enough to withstand a good thrashing! 0

With that thought in mind, she wasted no time and kicked her way over. 0

“Ah… ah… ah…” 0

A thunderous uproar erupted in the study, truly a cacophony of wails and cries! 0

“You Su family members are all inhuman!” Bai Ci wept bitterly. “I just got beaten to a pulp by my old man for coming here to apologize to you, then your Old Stubborn kicked me a few times, and now you’re laying your hands on me… I can’t face anyone anymore, losing both my dignity and my heart…” 0

“Losing both your dignity and your heart?” The Su Yan was taken aback. Could it be that she had taken advantage of him while he was drunk? No way! She suspiciously glanced at her own battered hands, still clutching threads of fabric, then at Bai Ci’s disheveled clothing. Her heart raced like a drum, pounding uneasily. 0

“Bai Ci,” she said cautiously, “if I really did take advantage of you, can we negotiate? Let’s not make me responsible for this, okay?” 0

Bai Ci stumbled at her words, nearly rolling off the couch. 0

“ Su Yan! You heartless woman!” he shouted in anguish. “For your sake, I foolishly drowned my sorrows in drink. Not only did I get beaten by my father, but I also got scolded publicly by that miserly Qin Shuyang! And now I have to humiliate myself in front of all these beautiful ladies. Do you think I deserve this? I…” 0

"Wait, what does this have to do with Qin Shuyang?" the Su Yan interrupted him. 0

"Well, take a look for yourself," Bai Ci said, tilting his chin toward the Su Yan's hands. "Just see what you've done!" 0

"W-what have I done?" the Su Yan asked, trembling. 0

"How would I know!" Bai Ci replied irritably. "It was Qin Shuyang who brought you home. I have no idea what you did to him." 0

The Su Yan's mind buzzed, as if a building had collapsed around her, leaving her shaken to the core. 0

Looking down at her hands again, she faintly recalled the piercing pain, the deep-seated hatred, and the fierce determination she had felt at that moment. What kind of significant impact had she left on Qin Shuyang...? 0

This truly was an unexpected twist, a sudden turn of events! A flush crept up her cheeks, leaving her feeling uneasy. 0

She had to admit that for several days now, whenever she saw Qin Shuyang, she felt a bit anxious. The stalemate had to be broken, she thought. 0

"Lord Qin, in such heavy rain, are you really planning to walk home with just an umbrella and your own two feet?" 0
