The day before the wedding, the sun shone brightly, casting a dazzling light on the festive red double happiness symbol, making it almost blinding. Kebo squinted his eyes as he directed the movers to bring in the last batch of wedding candies into the hotel banquet hall. Dressed in a casual suit with his hair neatly styled, he couldn't help but smile broadly.
"Hey, Bo, with that triumphant look on your face, one might think you're about to ascend to the throne!" His best man, Chen Jianguo, laughed as he playfully punched him on the shoulder. "Nervous? You're about to say goodbye to your bachelor days!"
Kebo grinned widely. "Nervous? Not at all! I've been looking forward to this day for so long; I finally get to bring Dai Xinyi home!" He pulled out his phone, showing a picture of Dai Xinyi with her radiant smile. "Once we're married, I'm going to have her give me three kids to form a basketball team!"
Chen Jianguo rolled his eyes. "You better watch your tongue! First, let's make sure tonight's bachelor party is well organized; the guys are all waiting to celebrate!"
At that moment, Kebo's parents arrived. Kong Mu immediately pulled him aside, asking with concern, "Bo, are you tired? Do you want to eat something first?" Kuo Fu stood nearby, smiling and patting his shoulder. "Good boy, you're doing great! Just make sure to perform well tomorrow; don't embarrass our family!"
Kebo felt warm inside, surrounded by his parents' love. He nodded vigorously. "Don't worry, Mom and Dad! I'll make sure the wedding is spectacular!"
Meanwhile, in a luxurious hotel suite across town, Dai Xinyi was twirling in front of the mirror in her pristine wedding dress. Wang Lina sat on the sofa, resting her chin on her hand as she admired her friend. "Dai Xinyi, you look stunning! This dress seems tailor-made for you!"
Dai Xinyi forced a smile, but her gaze was distant. She caressed the delicate lace of her gown while feeling as if a heavy stone weighed down her heart.
"What's wrong? You seem distracted," Wang Lina noticed her friend's unusual demeanor. "Are you nervous? Don't worry; every bride feels this way before the wedding."
Dai Xinyi shook her head and took a deep breath. "It's not nerves; it just feels like everything is happening too fast. I can't shake the feeling that something is missing."
Wang Lina approached and took her hand gently. "Dai Xinyi, be honest with me—are you still thinking about Zhang Tianming?"
Dai Xinyi's expression changed instantly as she pulled her hand away sharply. "No! Don't say that!"
Wang Lina sighed. "Dai Xinyi, you can't fool me. You still have feelings for him; why are you marrying Bo then? It's unfair to him and to yourself."
Dai Xinyi bit her lip, her eyes glistening with tears. "I know... but I can't help it." She covered her face and choked back sobs. "Tianming... he has depression; he needs me."
Wang Lina was taken aback and after a moment said carefully, "Dai Xinyi, are you sure he really has depression?"
Dai Xinyi suddenly looked up at her friend with panic and uncertainty in her eyes.
As night fell and the lights began to twinkle, Kebo dialed Dai Xinyi's number eagerly wanting to hear his fiancée's voice.
When the call connected, Dai Xinyi's voice came through the receiver but carried an undercurrent of fatigue that was hard to miss.
"Dai Xinyi, it's me," Kebo said softly. "Tomorrow I'm marrying you—are you excited?" His voice was filled with warmth and anticipation, as if it could reach into Dai Xinyi's heart through the phone line.
"Yeah..." Dai Xinyi's response was somewhat cold, dousing Kebo's enthusiasm like a bucket of cold water.
After a brief silence, Kebo sensed a shift in her mood and asked gently, "What's wrong? You don't sound very happy."
