After listening to Huang Lei's advice, Dai Xinyi felt a little more at ease. She decided to calm down and think carefully about what to do next.
Following the address provided by Huang Lei, she drove to Ke Wenbo's neighborhood. On this autumn evening, leaves were falling all around, creating a desolate scene that mirrored her current mood. Taking a deep breath, she gazed at the familiar building, her heart pounding violently in her chest.
Standing in front of Ke Wenbo's door, Dai Xinyi hesitated for a moment before finally pressing the doorbell. Time ticked by, but no one came to answer. She pressed the button several more times, yet there was still no response. Was Ke Wenbo not home?
Just as Dai Xinyi was about to give up, footsteps echoed in the hallway. She turned to see Chen Jianguo approaching. As Ke Wenbo's best man and old classmate, he immediately recognized Dai Xinyi. A flicker of surprise crossed his face, quickly replaced by a complex expression.
"Dai Xinyi? What brings you here?" Chen Jianguo asked as he approached her, his tone laced with curiosity.
"Jianguo, is this Ke Wenbo's home? I want to talk to him," Dai Xinyi's voice trembled, her eyes filled with desperation.
Chen Jianguo sighed and shook his head. "He’s home, but he doesn’t want to see you."
"Why? How can he treat me like this?" Tears welled up in Dai Xinyi's eyes again; she couldn't understand Ke Wenbo's indifference.
"Dai Xinyi, you need to calm down. You went too far on the wedding day. Wenbo was deeply hurt," Chen Jianguo tried to reason with her.
"I know I was wrong; I know I hurt him. But I had no choice! Zhang Tianming... he attempted suicide! I couldn’t just ignore him!" Dai Xinyi cried even harder.
Chen Jianguo fell silent for a moment. He understood Dai Xinyi's character—indecisive and easily manipulated. But this time, she had truly made a mistake.
"Dai Xinyi, I've heard about Zhang Tianming too. His situation isn’t as serious as you think. You’ve been deceived," Chen Jianguo ultimately chose to reveal the truth.
"What? What are you saying?" Dai Xinyi was taken aback, unable to believe her ears.
"Zhang Tianming didn’t actually attempt suicide. He was just acting," Chen Jianguo said heavily.
"Acting? Why would he do that?" Dai Xinyi felt as if her worldview was collapsing.
"For you. To make you leave Wenbo and come back to him," Chen Jianguo looked directly into her eyes, speaking firmly.
Dai Xinyi felt as if she had been struck by lightning; she stood there in shock, her mind blank. She finally realized that she had been played by Zhang Tianming. In pursuit of a deceitful man, she had given up on the one who truly loved her—Ke Wenbo.
"Dai Xinyi, I know you're hurting right now, but you have to accept reality. Wenbo has started a new life; you should move on too," Chen Jianguo said gently.
Dai Xinyi remained silent, tears streaming down her face. She knew she had lost Ke Wenbo—lost him forever.
