"What are you thanking me for?" Li Bo asked.
"Thank you for giving me a home, thank you for making me feel the warmth of a family," Fang Jing Shu replied.
Li Bo lowered his head and kissed Fang Jing Shu's forehead, saying, "Silly, I should be the one thanking you."
A new life had begun, and everything seemed to be heading in a positive direction. Li Bo's career was thriving, and Fang Jing Shu had also found a new job. Both of them were filled with hope for the future.
After moving into their new apartment, Li Bo took on a crucial project at work, codenamed "Nirvana." This project was vital for the company; it was said that if it succeeded, they could go public, but if it failed, they would be in serious trouble.
The pressure weighed heavily on Li Bo's shoulders. He started working long hours, often dragging his exhausted body home in the early hours of the morning.
Fang Jing Shu was considerate, preparing nutritious meals for him every day—soups, stews, and various fruits and snacks—worried that he might wear himself out. Sometimes when Li Bo worked late into the night, Fang Jing Shu would personally drive to the office to bring him supper, checking on him with genuine concern, embodying the perfect supportive partner.
"Bo, don’t overwork yourself; take care of your health," she said gently as she massaged his shoulders, her voice filled with tenderness.
Li Bo held her hand and smiled gratefully. "It's fine; I can handle it. This little hardship is nothing for our future."
Though he said this, inside he was becoming increasingly anxious. The project's progress was slow, and conflicts among team members left him feeling overwhelmed. He began to smoke frequently, one cigarette after another, filling the ashtray with butts as the air became thick with a choking smell.
Although Fang Jing Shu disliked his smoking, she didn’t say much about it. Instead, she quietly opened a window to let in fresh air and brewed him a cup of tea.
"Fang Jing Shu, you’re truly wonderful," Li Bo sighed as he buried his head in her embrace like a lost child seeking comfort.
She gently stroked his hair and softly said, "I know you're under a lot of pressure, but no matter what happens, I will always be here to support you."
Li Bo felt deeply moved; he hugged Fang Jing Shu tightly as if he wanted to merge her into himself.
Meanwhile, Zhang Tianming—the persistent thorn in their side—continued to slander Dai Xinyi online. He registered various fake accounts and spread rumors across major forums and social media platforms, claiming that Dai Xinyi was promiscuous and had cheated during her marriage. He even fabricated some scandalous stories.
"Dai Xinyi, you wretched woman! Do you think you can be happy? I’ll make sure you’re ruined!" Zhang Tianming seethed behind his computer screen, gritting his teeth as he typed furiously with a sinister smile on his face.
The rumors spread like wildfire online, and Dai Xinyi's reputation plummeted. Friends began to distance themselves from her; colleagues whispered behind her back; even her family started to doubt her.
Dai Xinyi lived in fear and anxiety every day. She didn't dare go out or answer calls; she avoided going online for fear of seeing those malicious comments. She felt like a bird trapped in a cage—stripped of freedom and hope.
Wang Lina looked at Dai Xinyi curled up on the sofa like a frightened kitten—her eyes vacant, face pale, hair disheveled—she resembled someone completely lost. With a sigh, she handed Dai Xinyi a tub of ice cream. "Have something sweet; it might lift your spirits."
Dai Xinyi mechanically accepted the ice cream and took a spoonful but couldn’t taste anything. She stared blankly at the television screen where a soap opera was playing but couldn’t focus on it; her mind was consumed by those hurtful comments that pierced her heart like countless needles.
