However, fate always seems to enjoy playing tricks on people. During a game, Dai Xinyi accidentally fell and twisted her ankle. The sharp pain made her cry out involuntarily.
People around her quickly gathered, asking about her condition. Kebo squeezed through the crowd, and seeing Dai Xinyi in pain made his heart sink.
"How are you? Is it serious?" Kebo asked with concern, a hint of urgency in his tone.
Dai Xinyi bit her lip and shook her head. "It's nothing, just a sprain."
"I'll take you to the hospital." Without waiting for an answer, Kebo moved to pick up Dai Xinyi.
"No, I can manage myself." Dai Xinyi rejected Kebo's kindness; she didn't want to owe him anything more.
"Don't be stubborn; your ankle is swollen." Kebo insisted on taking her to the hospital.
"I really don't need it; I can call a taxi." Dai Xinyi continued to refuse.
"Bo, just take Dai Xinyi to the hospital; it's not far from here," Fang Jing Shu advised.
With no other option, Dai Xinyi reluctantly agreed. Kebo carefully picked her up and headed toward the hospital, while Fang Jing Shu followed behind, carrying Dai Xinyi's bag.
Throughout the journey, Kebo remained silent, his gaze fixed on Dai Xinyi's face as if trying to see through her. Dai Xinyi kept her head down, unable to meet his eyes. Her mind was a chaotic mess, tangled with confusion.
Upon reaching the hospital, after an examination confirmed that Dai Xinyi's ankle was only a mild sprain and not fractured, Kebo finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"The doctor said you need to rest for a few days and avoid strenuous activities," Kebo reminded her.
"I understand; thank you," Dai Xinyi replied softly.
"Dai Xinyi, let me take you home," Kebo offered again.
"No, I can manage myself." She rejected his kindness once more.
"Dai Xinyi, don’t be polite; let Bo take you home," Fang Jing Shu urged.
Dai Xinyi hesitated for a moment but ultimately agreed. She simply didn’t have the energy to argue anymore.
Kebo took Dai Xinyi back to her parents' house. The silence during the ride was more suffocating than any argument could have been. Several times, she wanted to speak but ended up saying nothing at all.
She stole glances at Kebo's tense profile, regret washing over her like a tide. The scene at the wedding felt absurdly laughable in hindsight. Zhang Tianming, whom she once thought was her soulmate, now seemed nothing more than a selfish liar.
Upon arriving at the Dai family home, Dai Qi immediately rushed over upon seeing his daughter in Kebo's arms. "Dai Xinyi, what happened?"
