Zhao Shanhe sighed, his tone growing heavy. "Actually, Dai Xinyi has always missed you. She often brings you up and says she regrets leaving you."
Kebo scoffed coldly. "Regret? What does she have to regret now? It was her choice to leave me."
Zhao Shanhe continued, "I know, and Dai Xinyi knows she made a mistake. She's not doing well; she often suffers from insomnia and has even developed depression."
Kebo's heart tightened. Although he no longer had feelings for Dai Xinyi, he didn't want her to suffer. "How is she now? Is it serious?"
Zhao Shanhe's voice grew even heavier. "Not good at all. She often hides in her room and cries, saying she wants to see you."
Kebo hesitated, unsure if he should meet Dai Xinyi. He worried that Fang Jing Shu would misunderstand.
"Bro, I know you still care about Dai Xinyi. Just go see her; maybe it will be a relief for her," Zhao Shanhe pleaded desperately.
In the end, Kebo softened and agreed to Zhao Shanhe's request.
The next day, Kebo made an excuse to Fang Jing Shu, saying he needed to go on a business trip for two days. In reality, he secretly went to the neighboring city to meet Dai Xinyi. However, he was unaware that this was all a trap set by Zhao Shanhe and Huang Guoqiang.
Zhao Shanhe faced obstacles at Dai Xinyi's place and redirected his frustrations onto Kebo.
Teaming up with Huang Guoqiang, they decided to deal with Kebo together. Zhao Shanhe exploited Dai Xinyi's feelings for Kebo and fabricated a series of lies to make Kebo believe that Dai Xinyi still loved him.
When Kebo met Dai Xinyi, he noticed she looked much more haggard than before, her eyes filled with sadness.
Dai Xinyi was surprised to see Kebo but was overwhelmed with emotion at the sight of him. She tightly embraced him and cried, expressing her regret over leaving him and her desire to start anew together.
Seeing Dai Xinyi in such pain tugged at Kebo's heartstrings. He comforted her with a few words but did not agree to reconcile. He told her that he had moved on and hoped she could let go of the past and start afresh.
This scene was captured by Zhao Shanhe, who lurked in the shadows.
Lin Hao hummed a little tune, holding a beautifully wrapped gift box in his hands, his steps light as if he were walking on clouds. Recently, he felt that Dai Xinyi's attitude toward him had subtly changed; she was no longer as cold as before and even occasionally greeted him. This thrilled him, as if victory was within reach.
Not seeing Dai Xinyi at work that day, he thought it might be a good idea to visit her at home while the iron was hot—perhaps it would deepen their relationship further.
He had already found out Dai Xinyi's address and had almost obsessively tracked her daily routines. He imagined the surprise on her face when she received his gift, unable to suppress a smug smile.
Lin Hao gently tapped on the door—once, twice, three times—his rhythm lively like his excited heartbeat at that moment. He even began fantasizing about the surprised look on Dai Xinyi's face when she saw him and how shy she would be when receiving the gift.
