Upon seeing Li Wenbo, Fang Jing Shu's face broke into a gentle smile. "You're back? You must be exhausted. I made your favorite Sweet and Sour Ribs today."
Li Wenbo said nothing; he strode forward and enveloped Fang Jing Shu in his arms, holding her tightly as if he wanted to merge her into his very being. He lowered his head and kissed her fiercely, filled with a hint of aggression and an uncontrollable desire.
The sudden passion caught Fang Jing Shu off guard. She froze for a moment but quickly responded, wrapping her arms around Li Wenbo's waist and returning his kiss. The kitchen was filled with an ambiguous atmosphere, the mingling of their breaths and the clattering of pots and pans creating a peculiar symphony.
This kiss carried the weight of Li Wenbo's suppressed emotions from the entire day, intertwined with his complex feelings for Dai Xinyi, and tinged with uncertainty about the future. He needed an outlet, a source of support, and Fang Jing Shu was right there.
After a long while, they finally parted. Fang Jing Shu's cheeks were flushed with a light pink hue, her gaze dreamy like a peach blossom glistening with dew, radiant and alluring. Li Wenbo looked at her, feeling an inexplicable sense of satisfaction swell within him. He gently caressed her cheek and said hoarsely, "Fang Jing Shu, thank you."
"Thank me for what?" Fang Jing Shu asked, puzzled.
Li Wenbo shook his head without explanation, pulling her even closer.
In the following days, Li Wenbo seemed like a different person. He became more dedicated to work and more attentive to family. He returned home on time for dinner every day, chatted and walked with Fang Jing Shu, and even took her out for picnics on weekends as if trying to make up for all the lost companionship.
Although Fang Jing Shu found Li Wenbo's behavior somewhat unusual, she enjoyed this sweet time together. She thought he had finally come to terms with everything and wanted to build a life with her, filling her heart with happiness and anticipation.
However, the calm did not last long.
After dinner one evening, Li Wenbo unexpectedly started washing the dishes while Fang Jing Shu lounged on the sofa, idly scrolling through her phone. Suddenly, a friend request popped up on WeChat from an account with a dark profile picture named Insider. The message read: "I have important information regarding Li Wenbo."
Fang Jing Shu frowned; she almost ignored it but hesitated at the mention of Li Wenbo's name. Since their marriage, she had noticed the changes in him—though sweet, it always felt somewhat unreal, like it was wrapped in a layer of candy coating that made her uneasy. Compelled by some instinct, she clicked to accept the request.
Almost instantly, several photos were sent from the other side. The images showed Li Wenbo in a heated exchange with a woman on the street; she was crying bitterly while he appeared anxious and helpless. Fang Jing Shu recognized that woman immediately—it was Dai Xinyi.
A chill shot through her from head to toe; it felt as if she had been doused in ice water, leaving her body stiff. She stared at the photos intently, her fingertips trembling slightly. Did Li Wenbo still have lingering feelings for Dai Xinyi? Was his recent kindness merely an attempt to alleviate his guilt?
Insider sent another message: "I know you're hurting; the truth must be faced eventually. Li Wenbo doesn't truly love you; he sees you as a substitute for Dai Xinyi."
Those words struck like a sharp knife into Fang Jing Shu's heart. She bit down hard on her lip, fighting back tears.
She recalled the hesitation and struggle in Li Wenbo's eyes on their wedding day and remembered his recent unusual tenderness and thoughtfulness—everything had been a lie!
