The two of them arrived at a bustling crayfish restaurant, ordering a table full of crayfish and beer. Fang Jing Shu peeled the crayfish while sipping her drink, her mood seemingly lifted considerably.
After they had eaten and drunk their fill, Fang Jing Shu and Lin Xiaoxuan strolled down the street, their shoulders linked. The night breeze brushed past them, bringing a hint of coolness that eased some of Fang Jing Shu's intoxication. As she glanced at Lin Xiaoxuan beside her, she suddenly felt much lighter in spirit. It was truly wonderful to have such a friend by her side.
"Xiaoxuan, thank you," Fang Jing Shu said sincerely.
"What for? We're like family!" Lin Xiaoxuan boisterously patted her shoulder. "If anything like this happens again, you must tell me! I’ll stand up for you!"
Fang Jing Shu nodded with a smile, but a wave of bitterness surged within her. She knew that Lin Xiaoxuan's loyalty and support were her greatest comforts, yet some things ultimately had to be faced alone.
After seeing Lin Xiaoxuan off, Fang Jing Shu walked home alone. The night was deep, and the streetlights cast a dim yellow glow, stretching her shadow long behind her. She recalled the events of the day, feeling as if a heavy stone pressed down on her chest, making it hard to breathe.
Wang Yanguang's greasy gaze and repulsive words lingered in her mind like a nightmare that wouldn't fade away.
"Why is it always me?" Fang Jing Shu murmured to herself, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably. She couldn't understand why she had to endure such humiliation when she had done nothing wrong.
Once home, Fang Jing Shu threw herself onto the bed, letting her tears soak the pillow. She wanted to call Li Bo, to hear his voice and seek his comfort. But she hesitated.
Since their wedding day, the nature of her relationship with Li Bo had become delicate. Although they were officially husband and wife, it felt as if there was a thin membrane between them that prevented them from truly connecting.
Fang Jing Shu tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. Finally, she got up and went to the window, gazing at the pitch-black night sky with countless thoughts swirling in her mind.
Meanwhile, Li Bo was also struggling. Since Fang Jing Shu returned to her family home, he had been living alone in their empty house for several days, feeling particularly lonely. He began to miss the meals she cooked, the faint scent that lingered on her body, and her gentle smile.
The days apart made him realize that his feelings for his wife ran deeper than he had imagined. He once thought his feelings for Dai Xinyi were love; now he saw that it was merely a fleeting infatuation. Fang Jing Shu was the one who truly held his heart.
However, Huang Guoqiang's situation remained like a thorn in his heart. He believed in Fang Jing Shu's feelings for him but couldn't shake off the ambiguity surrounding her relationship with Huang Guoqiang.
"Fang Jing Shu, what are you hiding from me?" Li Bo lay in bed tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. He repeatedly replayed the events of their wedding day and all the moments shared with Fang Jing Shu afterward in an attempt to find answers.
The hot and humid air was filled with the smell of barbecue grease as Li Bo sat alone on a plastic stool at a roadside stall, several bottles of beer and a plate of peanuts in front of him.
He absentmindedly shelled peanuts while taking sips of beer as if this could numb the pain inside him. The chaotic scenes from the wedding fiasco, Dai Xinyi’s runaway bride act, and Fang Jing Shu’s understanding nature all intertwined in his mind until it felt like his head would split open.
"Hey there, drinking alone?" A delicate voice broke through his thoughts.
Li Bo looked up to find a woman sitting across from him without him noticing. She wore a tight black dress that accentuated her curvy figure; under the dim light, her long legs were particularly striking. Li Bo couldn't help but glance at her twice before asking, "Who are you?"
