Fang Jing Shu felt like a trapped beast in the confines of her room, struggling painfully within the cage of her emotions. Over and over, she scrolled through the photo on her phone, the image of Li Wenbo and Dai Xinyi embracing pierced her heart like a dagger. Tears flowed uncontrollably, soaking her pillow and blurring her vision.
She recalled every moment spent with Li Wenbo; those sweet memories had turned into bitter irony. She had once believed that Li Wenbo was her destined partner, the one she could trust with her life, but now she realized that she hardly knew him at all.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Lin Xiaoxuan calling.
"Fang Jing Shu, are you okay? I heard from Auntie..."
"Xiaoxuan," Fang Jing Shu choked out, unable to control her emotions any longer, and burst into tears.
On the other end of the line, Lin Xiaoxuan anxiously tried to comfort her but struggled to find the right words to truly ease her pain.
After crying, Fang Jing Shu felt a little better. She wiped her tears, took a deep breath, and tried to calm herself down. Opening her computer, she began browsing job listings. She decided it was time for a change—a new job and a new environment to start over.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door. It was her mother’s voice: "Fang Jing Shu, open the door. I need to talk to you."
After hesitating for a moment, Fang Jing Shu opened the door. Her mother entered with a cup of hot milk in hand.
"Fang Jing Shu," her mother said softly as she sat beside her and gently wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "In matters of the heart, there is no right or wrong—only what is suitable or unsuitable. If you feel tired, then let go. Don’t force yourself to endure."
Leaning against her mother, Fang Jing Shu listened to her soothing words as her heart gradually calmed down. She knew that her mother would always be her strongest support; no matter what happened, she would be there beside her.
After leaving the Fang family home, Li Wenbo didn’t head straight home. His mind was a chaotic mess, like countless cat claws scratching at him; he couldn’t settle down at all. He drove aimlessly around the vicinity of the Fang family home until he finally stopped at a relatively clean budget hotel.
“One standard room,” he said weakly to the receptionist. All he wanted was a place to throw himself into and sleep well, hoping to find a way to win Fang Jing Shu back in the morning.
Once inside his room, Li Wenbo irritably loosened his tie and tossed it onto the bed. He walked over to the window and lit a cigarette, taking a deep drag. The bustling street below was filled with cars and flashing neon lights, but none of it could dispel the gloom in his heart.
His mind was filled with images of Fang Jing Shu crying; her hurt expression felt like a knife stabbing him repeatedly. He felt like a jerk for losing such a good woman.
"Dai Xinyi! This is all your fault!" Li Wenbo crushed out his cigarette angrily, feeling even more resentment towards Dai Xinyi. If it weren’t for her sudden outburst, he and Fang Jing Shu should have been sweetly enjoying their wedding night in their new home instead of him being alone in this hotel like a lost dog.
Early the next morning, Li Wenbo arrived again at the Fang family home with dark circles under his eyes and carefully chosen gifts in hand. He rang the doorbell, feeling anxious as if waiting for his sentence to be pronounced.
When Fang's father opened the door and saw Li Wenbo, his expression immediately darkened. "What are you doing here?"
