I named it "Xuan." 0

Xuan is a curious little creature, always running around the mountains. Wherever it goes, the restless and chaotic resentment in the air seems to calm down significantly. 0

Well, even though it's just a young beast, it is still somewhat useful. 0

With that in mind, I decided to start repairing the Stone Beast that was damaged but not too severely. After all, if something is too badly damaged, whether it can be pieced together is still a question, so I’ll set that aside for now. 0

During its idle moments, Xuan would come over to me and snuggle close. 0

“Gao?” (What are you doing?) It tilted its head curiously at me. 0

I was studying the fit of the fragments I had in my hands to see if they matched correctly. 0

“I’m helping you gain a companion,” I replied casually. “Have you finished your patrol?” 0

Since Xuan indeed has the ability to suppress resentment, I let it run around the mountain path and near the Demon Suppression Cave every day. Once the resentment calmed down a bit, it would make my purification process easier. Plus, it could help keep an eye out for anyone intruding into Potter's Field, so I could be prepared. 0

After all, not long after it woke up one night, I happened to get lucky and managed to deal with three walking corpses at once. 0

My accuracy and duration with Wind Restraint weren't quite enough yet. Although I successfully bound two of them so they couldn't move, the third one was too quick for me to catch. In that situation, I couldn't afford to split my focus to chant Blade of Purification to deal with the other two first. 0

Just when I was about to be attacked, Xuan suddenly rushed over on its little short legs and let out a fierce roar at the walking corpse— 0

“Gaooo—!” 0

Unlike its usual childish voice, this was a solid beastly roar that seemed to resonate through the entire space. Not only did the three walking corpses freeze in place immediately, but even the Wandering Spirits that had been lingering nearby vanished without a trace. 0

The roar of the beast was indeed formidable, but it also caused Xuan to retreat into the stone statue and sleep for a whole day before reemerging. 0

What worried me more was how far that sound might have traveled and whether it would stir up the residents down the mountain, prompting them to send someone to investigate. 0

After all, dealing with people could be quite troublesome, and I had no idea how to explain the situation. 0

Although there had been no signs of disturbance so far, I still couldn't shake off my unease... 0

It seemed that, just in case, I should prepare a plausible excuse for myself. 0

“Gao!” (I’ve finished my patrol, and there’s nothing unusual!) Xuan Yi happily reported to me. 0

“Hmm, very good,” I replied dismissively, giving its head a casual rub before returning my focus to the fragments in my hands. 0

This particular stone beast was located on the other side, positioned differently from Xuan Zhen and at quite a distance. Although it had been cleaved in half, the larger pieces suggested that reassembling it shouldn't be too difficult. The only downside was its weight. Each fragment was at least the size of my palm, making it quite laborious just to lift them for comparison. 0

While I could use Wind Manipulation to help support and lighten the load, that would consume spiritual energy. So as long as I could manage on my own, I preferred to rely on my own strength. 0

After all, I had already consumed half of my steamed bun and needed to conserve what little I had left. 0

I had once been curious whether drinking water could also replenish spiritual energy... but it turned out that drinking water was purely for maintaining bodily functions; it had nothing to do with restoring Spirit Power Value. 0

What a pity. 0

“Gao?” (Will you play with me when he wakes up?) Xuan tilted its head at the incomplete stone beast before us. 0

“Yeah, make sure you get along well when the time comes,” I replied without looking up. 0

"Not this one, let's try another." 0

"Gao!" Xuan happily responded, obediently lying down beside me, quietly watching me work on my assignment. 0

Before long, perhaps feeling bored, it got up and ran off again. 0

"Gao!" (I'll go play by myself first, and call me when it wakes up!) 0

...What an energetic child, never able to sit still for a moment. 0

I glanced at its swiftly disappearing figure, chuckling helplessly as I continued to struggle with the stone in my hand. 0

...Forget it, today's touch just isn't right; I'll leave it at this for now. 0

I sighed in disappointment as I set down the stones that just wouldn't come together, releasing the pent-up frustration from my chest. 0

Casually rubbing my sore shoulders, I slowly made my way toward the Demon Suppression Cave, planning to rest and gather my strength before facing the long night ahead. 0

However, just before reaching the entrance of the Demon Suppression Cave, I suddenly stopped in my tracks, puzzled by the gathering of Wandering Spirits ahead. 0

These restless souls do drift about during the day as well, but they usually appear more subdued and silent until night falls when they begin to wail and moan one by one. 0

Yet, seeing them congregated in such numbers before the Demon Suppression Cave was a first for me. Some of them had even transformed from their usual Soul Flame forms back into their original human appearances. 0

What was happening? 0

I slowed my pace as I approached, noticing that their gazes were all fixed vacantly in the same direction. I followed their line of sight— 0

A beam of heavenly light broke through the thick clouds, illuminating the dark and eerie top of Potter's Field. The dazzling, pure light fell directly upon a Sophora Tree, making it appear as if it were adorned with a radiant glow, creating an unusually beautiful scene in this somber and foreboding space. 0

“…My soul has been trapped in this Potter's Field for countless years, bound by the resentment that permeates this place, unable to find release…” an old woman murmured to herself. “In all these years, I have never witnessed such a sight…” 0

“A Potter's Field shrouded in lingering resentment could actually see the light of day…” 0

“Does this mean that even we, burdened by deep sins, have not been forsaken by the heavens?” 0

I stood among a group of Wandering Spirits, sharing the same view as they did, silently listening to their mournful laments. 0

“Miss,” one of them suddenly turned to speak to me. “We have quietly watched you strive alone to cleanse this place of its resentment. We initially thought your efforts were futile, but it seems we were mistaken…” 0

“This place has long been abandoned by the Esotericism sects. Merely suppressing and sealing it off only deepens the resentment, yet no one has cared for us…” 0

“Now that it has been proven that the heavens have not forsaken this place, may we implore you for your compassion and guide us on our journey?” 0

In an instant, dozens of eyes turned towards me with eager anticipation, sending a chill down my spine. 0

Taking a deep breath to force myself to remain calm, I spoke evenly: 0

“Regarding this matter, it is certainly not a problem.” 0

Though my act of purifying resentment was purely personal and not specifically for anyone else, if they wished to leave on their own accord, that would be more than welcome. Otherwise, remaining here would only lead them to become evil spirits consumed by their own resentment. 0

“If you are ready, then let me guide you on your way.” 0

As I watched the once tense expressions on their faces gradually relax into looks of relief, I adjusted my breathing and began to chant the purification spell. 0

With the spread of the Spirit Light, each of them vanished with a peaceful expression. By the time I finished the incantation, there was not a single soul left around me. 0

"Thank you..." I faintly heard the last boy whisper as he departed. 0

I let out a long sigh and looked up into the void, softly saying, "Please rest in peace..." 0

"Gao!" Xuanxing's urgent call shattered the tranquility. 0

I couldn't help but let out a frustrated sigh. 0

Honestly, I hadn't even had the chance to immerse myself in my emotions and reminisce properly! 0

With a helpless expression, I turned to look into the distance and saw Xuanmai running towards me with its little short legs, but to my astonishment— 0

There was a person following behind it... 0
