As Su Yizhi and Lin Yu listened to the rapid sound of hooves, they exchanged a glance and simultaneously rose to walk outside the teahouse. A group of riders clad in black, their faces twisted with malice, reined in their horses before the establishment. At the forefront was a burly man with a scarred face.
"Who among you is Su Yizhi?" the Scarred Man shouted, his voice hoarse yet menacing.
Su Yizhi stepped forward, calmly regarding him. "I am Su Yizhi. May I ask what brings you here?"
The Scarred Man sneered. "Hmph, Su Yizhi, you're not as timid as I thought. Do you know you've ruined many people's plans? Someone's here to teach you a lesson today!"
Lin Yu stood beside Su Yizhi, his brow furrowed in concern. "Who are you? You come here unprovoked; are you trying to bully us with your numbers?"
The Scarred Man cast a disdainful glance at Lin Yu. "What does a little scholar like you know? This isn't your place to speak! Su Yizhi, come with us quietly, or you'll suffer."
Su Yizhi crossed his arms. "I have acted justly and honorably; I do not know whom I have offended. If you do not clarify your intentions, I will not go with you."
The Scarred Man's expression darkened. "You’re asking for trouble! Brothers, attack!" With that, the group of black-clad men dismounted, drawing their weapons and surrounding Su Yizhi and Lin Yu.
Su Yizhi glanced at Lin Yu. "Lin Brother, be careful." Although Lin Yu felt a surge of anxiety, he nodded in response.
The battle was about to erupt as Su Yizhi darted among the attackers, each strike landing precisely on his opponents' vital points. Though Lin Yu lacked martial skills, he cleverly sought opportunities while evading the black-clad men’s attacks.
"Su Yizhi, do you think you can keep being so arrogant?" the Scarred Man shouted from the sidelines.
Su Yizhi replied while fighting, "I am merely doing what I believe is right. If your masters are engaged in unjust deeds, I will not stand idly by."
Just as both sides reached a stalemate, another sound of hooves echoed from afar. Everyone turned to see a group of officials in uniforms galloping towards them.
The leading official reined in his horse and shouted, "Stop this at once!"
Upon seeing the officials, the Scarred Man's expression changed slightly, but he still defiantly replied, "My lord, we are carrying out our duties."
The official let out a cold laugh. "Executing a mission? I see you are just looking for trouble! Su Yizhi, the hero, admired by all, and yet you dare to lay hands on him."
Su Yizhi paused his actions and clasped his hands in greeting. "Thank you for your assistance, sir. May I ask your name?"
Dismounting, the official approached Su Yizhi. "I am the county magistrate of this area. I have long heard of your great name, and seeing you today, it truly lives up to its reputation."
Seeing this, the Scarred Man grew anxious. "Sir, we were ordered to—" But he was interrupted by the official.
"It doesn't matter whose orders you follow! On my territory, I won't allow you to act recklessly. Seize them all!" With a command from the official, his soldiers surged forward, subduing the men in black one by one.
Su Yizhi looked at the captured figures and said to the magistrate, "Sir, please investigate who is behind them to prevent further incidents in the future."
The magistrate nodded. "Rest assured, Hero Su, I will thoroughly investigate this matter. However, given your noble character, I have a request to discuss."
Su Yizhi asked, "Please feel free to speak."
The magistrate sighed. "In these times, bandits are rampant, and the common people suffer greatly. I would like to ask Hero Su to help train a group of villagers to protect their safety."
After a moment of thought, Su Yizhi replied, "You care for the people; I will certainly assist. However, training villagers is no easy task and will require support from various sources."
The magistrate was overjoyed upon hearing this. "If Hero Su is willing to help, it will be a blessing for the people. I will arrange all necessary supplies and training grounds."
Afterward, Su Yizhi and Lin Yu followed the magistrate to the county town. Under the magistrate's arrangements, they began training the villagers.
On the training ground, Su Yizhi shouted loudly, "Listen carefully! We train to protect the common people, not for competition or glory. Therefore, everyone must take this seriously!"
The villagers responded in a disorganized manner. Lin Yu stood by recording each person's progress.
"Hero Su, how long will this training take before we see results?" one of the villagers asked.
Su Yizhi said, "It depends on everyone's effort. As long as you are willing to endure hardship, it won't be long before you become a team capable of protecting the people."
Days passed, and the training of the villagers gradually showed results. However, at that moment, a piece of news arrived that weighed heavily on Su Yizhi and the others.
A villager rushed in, panting, "Hero Su, it's bad! A nearby village was raided by a group of bandits, and many people were injured."
Su Yizhi frowned tightly. "These bandits are so rampant; we cannot stand by and do nothing. Lin Brother, you and the County Magistrate stay in the county town. I will take the villagers to confront these bandits."
Lin Yu said with concern, "Brother Su, please be careful."
Su Yizhi nodded. "Yes, don't worry."
With that, Su Yizhi led the well-trained villagers towards the raided village. When they arrived, they were met with devastation; the villagers wore expressions of deep sorrow.
"Hero Su, you must avenge us!" one villager cried out.
Su Yizhi comforted them, saying, "Everyone rest assured, I will catch these bandits and ensure they receive the punishment they deserve."
At that moment, a sharp-eyed villager shouted, "Hero Su, there are traces of the bandits over there!"
Su Yizhi angrily declared, "Everyone follow me!" With that, they set off in pursuit of the direction the bandits had fled. However, what they did not know was that this chase would lead them into a different kind of peril…
