Mei Niang slowly turned her head and glanced at me.
"Da Shan, don't worry, I'm fine."
Then she looked back at Yuanwai Li.
"Today, I am going to teach you a lesson!"
Seeing Mei Niang pressing closer, Yuanwai Li suddenly shouted at the top of his lungs,
"If you dare to touch me, my the Li Family will burn this wretched mountain to the ground! We will not let you go; we will catch you and skin you alive!"
Mei Niang merely scoffed at his words with disdain.
In an instant, a surge of red light erupted around her, the intense glow making it almost impossible to keep one’s eyes open.
Yuanwai Li didn’t even have time to let out a scream before he was completely engulfed by the rushing red light.
As the red light dissipated, Yuanwai Li was left hanging from a distant tree like a tattered puppet.
He had long since lost consciousness, swaying gently in the breeze among the mountains.
Mei Niang turned and walked slowly toward me, each step as if she were treading on soft cotton.
Seeing this, I hurriedly stumbled over to catch her.
"Why are you so foolish? You didn't have to go to such lengths!"
Leaning against me, Mei Niang revealed a faint smile of weakness.
"As a Fox Demon, I do have some abilities. But today, I truly exhausted all my strength."
I held her tightly and said with regret,
"It's all my fault; I should have been the one protecting you."
Mei Niang gently shook her head.
"Don't be silly, Da Shan. I did this willingly. I love this forest and even more so, I love you."
I gazed at her, my eyes brimming with tears.
With one hand, I picked up a somewhat sturdy branch from beside me, gritting my teeth as I struggled to stand. My other hand carefully wrapped around Mei Niang, securing her on my back.
“Don’t be afraid, we’re going home,” I reassured her.
Mei Niang slightly opened her eyes and offered me a faint smile, her voice weak. “Dashan, I’m fine. I can walk on my own…”
Before she could finish her sentence, a violent cough erupted from her. I quickly lifted my foot, preparing to head out of the woods.
At that moment, a chilling laughter echoed from behind us. My heart tightened as I turned around sharply, only to see Yuanwai Li had somehow descended from the trees.
His face, marred by wounds, looked particularly grotesque at that moment, a wicked smile curling at the corners of his mouth as he tightly clutched the pile of yellow talismans that Mei Niang had previously knocked away.
“Zhang Dashan, did you really think you could escape?” he spat venomously. “Today, neither of you will leave here alive!”
Mei Niang shivered slightly on my back and weakly warned me, “Dashan, be careful!”
Yuanwai Li hurled the yellow talismans toward us while chanting incantations under his breath.
In an instant, several talismans flew around us, and the air felt as if it had solidified, becoming oppressively heavy. An invisible force wrapped tightly around Mei Niang and me, binding us like countless iron chains, rendering us utterly immobile.
“You two are nothing but fish in a barrel for me today!” Yuanwai Li sneered as he advanced toward us. “These talismans were procured at great expense by my the Li Family from Baiyun Temple; they’re not so easily broken! Today, not only will I take your life, but I’ll also capture this seductive vixen and toy with her for a while before skinning her alive and extracting her inner elixir!”
I was anxious and shouted at Mei Niang, "Mei Niang, think of a way to escape on your own!"
Mei Niang pressed closely against my back and said, "Dashan, don't be afraid. I still have a plan!"
