"Da Shan, don't be afraid. I have a way!"
She slowly closed her eyes, and her body began to emit a faint red glow once more. I could clearly feel her body growing hotter, as if she were on fire.
Yuanwai Li, seeing this, burst into loud laughter: "Sly fox, are you seeking death? In your half-dead state, you think you can defeat me? You're simply dreaming!"
Mei Niang ignored him, gritting her teeth as the red light around her grew even more brilliant. Suddenly, she opened her eyes wide and shouted with all her strength, "Die!"
A burst of red light erupted from her body in an instant. In that moment, the entire forest was illuminated as if it were midday. The light blazed like a raging fire, instantly engulfing Yuanwai Li.
A piercing scream echoed through the air before everything fell into a profound silence. Yuanwai Li was reduced to ashes, blown away by the wind without a trace.
Though Yuanwai Li had been obliterated, the power of those yellow talismans remained undiminished. At that moment, Mei Niang could no longer hold on and spat out a mouthful of blood.
"Mei Niang! Mei Niang!" I called out anxiously.
She weakly leaned against my back, her voice growing fainter: "Da Shan, I... I can't hold on much longer. The power of these yellow talismans is too great; I'm afraid I won't last long..."
My heart twisted painfully, and tears streamed down my face: "Mei Niang, don't say that! I will definitely get you out of here; I promise!"
Mei Niang gently shook her head.
"Dashan, I can't save myself anymore.
But I can’t let you die here.
Listen to me, I still have a last bit of strength to send you away from this dangerous place."
I shook my head desperately, refusing, "No, I won't go. I want to be with you!"
Mei Niang forced a smile and said,
"Fool, I won't let you die here.
Trust me, close your eyes and don't move."
Before I could say anything, a red light suddenly condensed around me.
I felt my body lighten as if lifted by an invisible powerful force, swiftly carrying me away from the woods.
"Mei Niang, Mei Niang!"
I shouted her name with all my might, but her figure grew smaller in my sight.
A gentle voice echoed in my ear:
"Dashan, don’t forget me. I will always be in your heart..."
Then everything went dark.
When I woke up again, I found myself lying on the grass outside the woods.
I immediately got up and looked back; all that met my eyes was a silent and desolate forest.
I rushed into the woods frantically, calling her name loudly, but all that answered me was the echo of my voice in the empty valley.
My legs gave way, and I knelt on the ground.
Tears poured out like a flood breaking through a dam.
"Mei Niang, don’t go, don’t leave me alone..."
At that moment, I saw a small red flower quietly blooming where I had just stood.
A single dewdrop hung on its petal, resembling a sorrowful tear.
I slowly reached out my hand and gently touched the little flower.
Miraculously, the petals seemed to possess a life of their own, quivering slightly.
"Is it Consort Mei?"
I carefully dug up the red flower along with the surrounding soil and cradled it in my hands.
It radiated a gentle warmth, as if it were Consort Mei's body temperature.
With tears in my eyes, I brought her home and planted her in the soil beneath the window, where I could see her with just a push of the window.
Remarkably, since then, this red flower has never wilted.
I am certain she is Consort Mei, always by my side.
Her love has never strayed far away.
