Zong Zeyu snapped back to reality and instinctively sighed. He looked at Wen Cuizhi's frustrated expression and decided to change the subject. "When is my brother coming back? He said he would return, but it’s been a month, and there’s still no sign of him."
Wen Cuizhi's frown deepened. "Your brother is avoiding me because he knows I’ll try to set him up with someone. Why should I not? Am I going to ruin your lives by helping you find wives? You two really should prepare yourselves; otherwise, you’ll end up single for life. It’s embarrassing!"
Zong Zeyu chuckled, feeling a bit lighter now that Wen Cuizhi had stopped dwelling on Tong Le. He was about to leave for the office when Wen Cuizhi stopped him. "About you and Tong Le, I want to intervene, but I know I can’t. If she can truly be good for you, I have no objections, as long as your preference is for women. Whoever you bring home, I’ll accept it. But she is married now, and honestly, I don’t see any affection for you in her eyes. Zeyu, a marriage isn’t just about one-sided feelings."
Wen Cuizhi became increasingly agitated. "I just don’t understand! What does my son lack compared to that Ke Wenjie? After all these years, every time I hear you talk about Tong Le and her family issues, I feel like I could recite them by heart!"
Zong Zeyu could only smile helplessly. "So, Mom, please don’t arrange any more blind dates for me; it’s a waste of time and emotions."
Wen Cuizhi suddenly remembered something. "By the way, have you decided to give that piece of land to Tong Le?"
Zong Zeyu nodded. "That land was meant as a betrothal gift when we arranged this marriage. Back then, it wasn’t worth much at all. Uncle Tong refused it initially, but my family insisted on giving it. Since Uncle Tong couldn’t decline, he let me hold onto it for him."
Zong Zeyu reflected on how Uncle Tong’s foresight had provided Tong Le with a safety net for her future. Perhaps Uncle Tong also felt that Ke Wenjie wasn’t someone worth committing to for life.
Wen Cuizhi sighed quietly. "That land was essentially a thank-you gift disguised as a betrothal gift. When your family was struggling in business, it was Tong Le who helped out generously; that’s how the Zong Family thrived later on. This kindness cannot be forgotten. Even though your father has passed away, this debt of gratitude still needs to be repaid."
Zong Zeyu took advantage of the moment. "So if I like Tong Le, that’s not an issue; it can be seen as repaying kindness."
Wen Cuizhi grabbed a nearby cushion and threw it at him. "You should just marry her! Bring your brother along and join the Tong Family! Repay kindness!"
Wen Cuizhi’s expression was one of exaggerated pain; usually quiet and reserved, she became animated whenever Tong Le was mentioned. "Get to the office! Just seeing you annoys me right now!"
Meanwhile, at Tong Company.
After leaving Zong Family Courtyard, Tong Le headed straight to her own company. As soon as she got out of the car, she received a WeChat message from Zong Zeyu: "Thank you for your help today; I owe you one."
Tong Le replied briskly: "Then hurry up and transfer that piece of land to me!"
Zong Zeyu responded just as bluntly: "No way!"
With a frown on her face, Tong Le walked into the office building. Although the company occupied an entire floor of the building, today she looked different from usual—she had chosen her outfit carefully and styled her long hair smoothly, complemented by a light layer of foundation.
Even though it was just a thin layer of makeup, it highlighted her beauty perfectly. Usually overlooked due to her poor complexion, today the makeup concealed that flaw and gave her an air of mature charm.
People in the office lobby turned to look at Tong Le; many didn’t even recognize her as their own boss lady.
Tong Le walked into Ke Wenjie's office. She stood at the door and knocked gently. Ke Wenjie instinctively looked up and said "Come in," but then her gaze fell on Tong Le with surprise.
