"Are you really saying that just because Ke Wenjie is your savior, you would offer yourself to him?" Zong Zeyu asked, a teasing tone in his voice. 0

Tong Le felt a bit ashamed. "It sounds absurd, but during my school years, I did think that way." 0

Zong Zeyu chuckled. "It seems I was right not to seek you out. No, you would cling to me for life." 0

Upon hearing this, Tong Le felt a little weight lift off her shoulders. She thought that Zong Zeyu was simply being chivalrous, and their reunion after so many years was merely a warm coincidence. Although the truth would only be revealed seven years later, it wasn't too late. 0

She happily began to eat. "I feel particularly relieved! Now that I know you are my savior, I have no psychological burden at all! I can hate Ke Wenjie with all my might! Finally, I can take revenge on him and kick him out of my life! I no longer have to hesitate just because he saved me!" 0

Tong Le raised her juice cup towards Zong Zeyu. "Cheers! I'm so glad to know you!" 0

At that moment, Zong Zeyu thought he should have appeared in Tong Le's world much earlier. If it weren't for what he had heard and seen today, he would never have imagined how much psychological burden Tong Le had been carrying all these years. 0

He finally understood that Tong Le's reluctance to leave her marriage wasn't due to weakness or stubbornness; it was because the scales in her heart were unsteady. After enduring extreme pain and betrayal, her inability to make a firm decision stemmed from the kindness she had received seven years ago tugging at her conscience. 0

Zong Zeyu spoke up, "You mentioned yesterday that you wanted my help. Have you thought about your strategy?" 0

Tong Le replied, "I was just rambling yesterday; don't take it seriously. How could I drag you into this mess? I'm grateful enough as it is." 0

Then she remembered, "Right! The land you helped me hold onto—let's leave it with you for now. I was worried before, but now I completely trust you. Or you could manage it directly; if there are any profits, we can share the living expenses." 0

Tong Le wanted to repay him, even if it was just for that piece of land worth hundreds of millions. 0

Zong Zeyu changed the subject. "I heard yesterday that Tong Company is negotiating a project with Zong Group. How about you take charge of this project?" 0

Tong Le pointed at herself in disbelief. "Me? Handle a project with Zong Group? I haven't worked in years; I'm afraid..." 0

Zong Zeyu reminded her, "Aren't you trying to break free from Ke Wenjie's control? You wouldn't just say that without meaning it, would you?" 0

Tong Le's expression grew serious. She realized she wanted to achieve something significant and needed to escape from Ke Wenjie's cage. It was time for action—right now. 0

Zong Zeyu said, "Go fight for the opportunity to connect with this project. If you can secure it, I'll help you afterward." 0

Tong Le felt an indescribable gratitude swell within her. It was as if she had found someone who could save her—a person who had already rescued her once seven years ago. 0

She spoke up again, "Tian Ling told me that when she discovered us back then, you were holding onto me tightly while flames raged behind us. Did you get hurt badly at that time?" 0

As she said this, Zong Zeyu suddenly felt a burning pain in his back. When he saved Tong Le back then, his back had been injured by debris and left with burn scars. 0

"No," he replied quickly. "I'm fine." 0

Tong Le sighed in relief. "That's good... that's good..." 0

Just then, the phone on the dining table vibrated again as Ke Wenjie and Zhang Huizhi's numbers bombarded her phone like a relay race. 0

Tong Le still did not respond. Zong Zeyu glanced at the notes on his phone screen and, seeing Tong Le's silence, spoke up, "Do you want me to explain it to them?" 0

Tong Le was startled. "What would you explain? That I forcibly kissed you last night? I haven't even figured out how to explain this at home yet. It feels like I'm having an affair, sneaking around with a guilty conscience." 0

Zong Zeyu nodded. "Indeed, our current situation does resemble infidelity." 0

He teased, "No, just tell them that you brought me home and that I forced you." 0

Tong Le looked exasperated. "You really love to joke." 0

She stood up. "I’m leaving now; they’ll call the police if I stay any longer." 0

"I'll have the driver take you," Zong Zeyu offered. 0

"No, I'll take a taxi. If Ke Wenjie and Zhang Huizhi find out, they’ll cause trouble for the driver," Tong Le refused. 0

As she turned to leave, Zong Zeyu suddenly asked, "You said last night that if you found out I was the one who saved you back then, you would pursue me. Was that true or false?" 0

Tong Le thought for a moment. "I would have back then, but not now. I know my worth." 0

She waved goodbye. "See you." 0

After Tong Le left, Zong Zeyu stared at the empty chair in front of him, a bittersweet smile crossing his face. It was amusing how a woman he deemed unworthy had captivated him for seven years; fate truly had a sense of humor. 0

He took out his phone and called Fan Qinghua. 0

Once the call connected, Zong Zeyu said, "I'll see you this afternoon to chat." 0

Fan Qinghua replied, "I have an appointment this afternoon; I'm helping Wen's friend with psychological counseling." 0

Zong Zeyu raised an eyebrow. "You're an obstetrician; how are you doing psychological counseling?" 0

Fan Qinghua explained, "It's that Tong Le from last time; she's a friend of Wen's. Since Tong Le asked Wen for help, I couldn't refuse. You know I've been pursuing Wen for three or four years now; I can't say no." 0

Zong Zeyu's tone turned firm. "I'll go to the hospital this afternoon to find you. I won't do anything but sit in on the session." 0

Half an hour later, the taxi pulled into the neighborhood. 0

Tong Le went upstairs and had just entered her home when her mother-in-law Zhang Huizhi's furious voice greeted her like a slap in the face. 0

Tong Le stepped back instinctively as Zhang Huizhi lunged forward, nearly tripping over herself. 0

Zhang Huizhi shouted frantically, "Where have you been? Out all night! Is this how a wife behaves? Have you no shame? Were you out fooling around with some man? Ignoring your phone calls and leaving your car parked on the street—if Ke Wenjie hadn’t called to move it, we would have thought you were dead outside! You shameless thing! Are you tired of this life and want to be a disgrace?" 0

Tong Le stood at the door, motionless and devoid of any emotion. 0

At that moment, Ke Wenjie rushed to the entrance and pulled Tong Le into the room. The door slammed shut, and Ke Wenjie forcefully shoved Tong Le against the wall, his eyes wide with anger. "Where were you last night? You didn’t come home! Have you lost your mind? You never used to do such immature things! I was so worried about you that I didn’t even go to work! Do you know that Mom and I almost called the police?" 0

In his fury, Ke Wenjie grabbed Tong Le by the neck. She remained still, staring at the man she had loved for seven years, the one who had used the guise of a savior to kidnap her benefactor. Tears streamed down her face, not from pain, but from the sorrow of her own situation and her own foolishness. 0

Seeing Tong Le cry, Ke Wenjie immediately released his grip. He forced himself to calm down. "I’m sorry," he began, "I was just too angry and worried about you." 0

Out of nowhere, Zhang Huizhi appeared with a feather duster in hand, pointing it at Tong Le. "Kneel down and apologize! Apologize to me and Ke Wenjie! Explain what you did last night! If not, we can’t go on living like this! Divorce!" 0
