Ke Wenjie slammed his hand on the table, exclaiming, "Who can do it! It has to be done in one go! If it gets rejected again, both the person and the project will be out!"
No one in the large hall dared to respond.
Tong Le raised his hand and stood up, saying, "Should I give it a try?"
Ke Wenjie waved his hand impatiently, "Don't make things worse at this time; you have no experience. Is there anyone willing to take on this project?"
After a long silence, Ke Wenjie sighed and decided, "Before we leave tonight, I want each of you to give me a project proposal—everyone! If you can't finish it, don't even think about leaving!"
At that moment, Jiang Zhichao quickly turned to Tong Le and said, "Let's partner up! We can do this together! It's truly a rare opportunity for us to get a project like this!"
In the Zong Group conference room, the HR department was conducting employee interviews. Today was Lan Qingqing's last day working in HR; starting tomorrow, she would officially join the procurement department. She had worked hard and leveraged various connections to transfer from HR to the lucrative procurement department.
Lan Qingqing sat with the HR manager in the conference room as candidates entered one after another for their assessments. She opened the next resume file and called out towards the hallway, "Wu Youyou! Is Wu Youyou here?"
From the crowd emerged a petite girl with a slender figure, clutching her resume. She wore a poorly fitting women's suit, and her fingernails were adorned with tiny sparkling diamonds—clearly a pampered rich girl.
Lan Qingqing scanned Wu Youyou from head to toe and immediately felt unimpressed. In her view, job seekers should be humble and down-to-earth. When she had applied to Zong Group, she had begged and pleaded, bowing and scraping to everyone while serving tea and buttering up her superiors.
So she couldn't understand why young people today could show up casually dressed and carefree for interviews while she had to endure so much hardship. It felt unfair! She wanted these young people to experience some of society's harsh realities!
With an air of superiority, Lan Qingqing disdainfully said, "Come in."
Wu Youyou followed Lan Qingqing into the conference room, nodding and smiling at the leaders inside. She was naturally cheerful, always wearing a smile.
As Lan Qingqing took her seat, she deliberately reminded Wu Youyou to be serious since this was an interview and not a time for joking around.
Lan Qingqing intended to frame Wu Youyou's smile as frivolous in order to skew the leaders' impression of her. She simply did not like Wu Youyou—especially after seeing her impressive study abroad experiences on her resume; jealousy welled up inside her!
Wu Youyou wasn't one to back down easily; her smile instantly faded. Although she remembered Zong Jin's advice about keeping calm, she couldn't tolerate Lan Qingqing's deliberate provocation any longer!
Wu Youyou confronted Lan Qingqing directly, "Where do you see me being frivolous? Are you wearing tinted glasses when you look at me? Are you deliberately targeting me?"
"Lan Qingqing," she reminded sharply, "do you even understand your position today? Once you step into this room, you must show at least a modicum of respect to everyone inside."
"Wu Youyou," she replied defiantly, "have I ever disrespected anyone? And have you shown me any respect?"
Noticing that her superior remained silent, Lan Qingqing made a decisive call. "You can leave now and wait for further notice."
"Wu Youyou" protested, "I haven't even started the interview! Why should I leave?"
Lan Qingqing stated firmly, "Your interview is over. You can go now. Do you understand?"
She then called out loudly towards the door, "Next! Li Le!"
Feeling targeted and unable to remain in the conference room any longer, Wu Youyou stood up and left. She headed to the restroom, staring at her reflection in the mirror, utterly confused about what she had done wrong. She had promised Zong Jin that she would perform well today, yet she felt she had disappointed him.
Taking out her phone, she called Zong Jin. As soon as the call connected, tears streamed down her face. "Brother-in-law, I messed up! I ruined my interview!"
On the other end, Zong Jin spoke gently to comfort her. "It's okay, Wu Youyou. Are you at the office? I’ll be there in ten minutes. Just wait for me."
Wiping her tears away, she replied, "Okay, brother-in-law. I'll wait for you at the office."
"Zong Jin" expressed concern. "Wash your face and stop crying. I brought you your favorite vanilla mille-feuille. I'll handle the work matters."
Meanwhile, back in the conference room, Lan Qingqing felt a momentary thrill from her actions until her male superior spoke up with an unhappy expression. "You can't do this again next time. What you just did was against protocol. That candidate didn't do anything wrong; after all, you represent the company’s image and shouldn’t have dismissed her like that."
Lan Qingqing apologized with a hint of regret. "I understand, leader. It won't happen again. When I saw her in the hallway earlier, I felt she was too disrespectful to us—loud and brash—showing no signs of someone looking for a job. Anyone who can join our Zong team must be exceptional, like you."
The male leader smiled slightly. "You're right; our company does need humble and stable employees."
