The sudden action startled Zong Jin. "Hey! What are you doing? I wasn't going to call her!"
Zong Zeyu could no longer bear to watch Zong Jin's cowardly demeanor. He pointed at the office door and commanded, "Go outside to make the call. Don't disturb my wife’s sleep."
Zong Jin, clutching his phone, hurriedly ran out of the office, his frantic demeanor resembling someone whose house was on fire.
In the office lobby, Lan Qingqing took several trips to the tea room, keeping an eye on the happenings in Zong Zeyu's office. She was certain that since she saw Tong Le enter Zong Zeyu's office, she hadn't seen Tong Le come out again. The two had been in there all afternoon, which seemed unreasonable.
Lan Qingqing called Ke Wenjie and reported, "Have you called Tong Le? She's still in Xiao Zong Zong's office and hasn't come out. It's strange."
On the other end of the line, Ke Wenjie responded with confusion, "Tong Le hasn't come out? She’s been in there all afternoon? I just asked her to deliver a document and get a signature. How can it still not be finished?"
A sense of panic began to rise in Lan Qingqing. She instinctively wondered if Tong Le had seduced Zong Zeyu. If that were true, wouldn’t her gap with Tong Le only widen?
But then she quickly shook off that thought. She was truly scaring herself; how could that fool Tong Le possibly attract someone like Zong Zeyu? Besides, how blind could Zong Zeyu be to fall for a married woman?
Yet as she pondered, her anxiety returned. Recently, there had been plenty of wild rumors circulating in the company, with some even claiming that Zong Zeyu and Tong Le were having an affair.
Lan Qingqing spoke into her phone, "Is Tong Le cheating? She’s been in Xiao Zong Zong's office for so long; they couldn't be... in the office..."
Ke Wenjie instinctively snapped back angrily, "What nonsense are you talking about! Tong Le and Zong Zeyu? Do you even know what you're saying?"
Lan Qingqing fell silent. Although it seemed unlikely, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off between Tong Le and Zong Zeyu.
Ke Wenjie calmed down and said, "I found a fake husband for you. His name is Mo Kai Liang; he’s my distant cousin. We can arrange a time for you two to meet. After the baby is born, you can have him temporarily recognized as the father."
Lan Qingqing was instantly furious. "You want your child to recognize your cousin as their father? Ke Wenjie! Your plan is absurd! You’ve actually thought this through? Didn’t you promise me you’d divorce Tong Le? What’s this all about now?"
Ke Wenjie threatened back, "Why are you yelling at me? If you want me to get a divorce, then hurry up and find out where that property is! Do you think this is easy for me? Everything I’m doing is for our child! Otherwise, I would have let you terminate the pregnancy long ago!"
Lan Qingqing fell silent; she indeed had no ground to stand on here. Ke Wenjie was thinking of the child’s future rather than simply abandoning her and the baby.
Meanwhile, in Zong Zeyu's office, he was selecting a restaurant on his phone, planning to take Tong Le out for a meal.
At that moment, Tong Le's phone began vibrating wildly, waking her from her slumber.
Groggily opening her eyes, she momentarily thought she was in her new apartment. Squinting, she grabbed her phone and answered it with a sleepy "Hello?"
On the other end was a polite voice belonging to an unfamiliar woman.
"You're Miss Tong, right? I'm the secretary of President Hou. I have a favor to ask you. Could you please return our President Hou's WeChat? If you don't, I won't be able to leave work today. I'm really sorry for the trouble, Miss Tong."
Tong Le thought she was dreaming. Such an absurd phone call, such a ridiculous reason for not letting her leave work.
After a moment of daze, she realized she wasn't dreaming.
She opened her eyes and spoke to her phone, "Hou Yi has truly lost his mind. He really should go see a psychiatrist and maybe even get some electroconvulsive therapy."
