Tong Le did not argue with Ke Jie. Although she was filled with anger, she understood that her battlefield was not here. Winning a verbal battle against Ke Jie held no significance; what she needed were tangible assets: a house, savings, and a company. Tong Le remained patient, just as she had in the past years, enduring all hardships in hopes of eventually staging a successful comeback.
At that moment, she thought of Li Hongmei in the break area, who should have finished the first round of her battle by now. Tong Le was confident that Zhang Huizhi would take the bait because she understood Zhang Huizhi's greed and the darker aspects of human nature.
After viewing the model apartment, Ke Jie and Tong Le exited the sales office one after the other. Zhang Huizhi followed on Ke Jie’s other side and asked, "So, son? What do you think of this place? Are you satisfied with the apartment? Do you want to buy here?"
Ke Jie frowned as he surveyed several construction sites nearby and replied, "The model apartment is indeed beautifully done, but I feel that the potential for appreciation here is low. If we buy this apartment, I believe it will depreciate in value later."
He decided, "I just thought about it; why don’t we hold off on buying a new house for now and rent instead? The real estate market isn’t optimistic right now. I want to wait a while longer or see if there are any other new developments."
Zhang Huizhi agreed, saying, "That sounds good. Let’s rent for now, son. I also think the current market environment isn’t great. It’s not like it used to be when you could easily make money just by buying property. Now everyone seems to be getting into something else."
Ke Jie was slightly surprised. "You stay at home every day and still manage to keep up with these market trends?"
Zhang Huizhi smiled and replied, "Your mother often scrolls through her phone. I know what’s trending and what’s not."
After saying this, Zhang Huizhi felt a bit proud of herself; she believed she had some business acumen and talent.
Meanwhile, Tong Le couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly. It seemed Li Hongmei had brainwashed Zhang Huizhi quite effectively since she was now casually mentioning buzzwords.
Ke Jie turned to Tong Le and said, "We’ll rent for now; you don’t mind, do you? That’s my plan because we need to move out of our current place quickly since it has been sold. The buyer said they want to keep the furniture, so we only need to take our personal items and essentials. Anyway, that furniture is quite old; it’s unnecessary for us to take it with us. We might as well leave it for the buyer."
Tong Le nodded in agreement. "Alright, I’ll go along with your decision."
Ke Jie continued, "Finding a rental place will take some time to explore, but I’ve been busy lately, and so have you. We don’t have much time on our hands. So I was thinking we could temporarily stay at the company dormitory; it won’t cost us anything and will suffice for a while."
Tong Le never expected Ke Jie to be so frugal; after selling their house for ten million yuan, he didn’t want to rent but instead planned to live in free employee accommodations?
At that moment, Tong Le felt fortunate that she had survived after marrying Ke Jie; truly, it was heaven's blessing. Otherwise, given Ke Jie’s extreme frugality when it came to money, he might have sold her kidney for cash!
Tong Le was speechless in astonishment while Zhang Huizhi secretly reveled in delight.
Zhang Huizhi chimed in, "Living in the employee dormitory is great! You can go straight to work from there. Tong Le loves working so much that even while pregnant she doesn’t rest; this suits her perfectly."
Zhang Huizhi took pleasure in Tong Le's predicament and shot her a disdainful look. She felt a sense of revenge fulfilled! Previously, she had been kicked out by Tong Le from their home; now things were different—she at least had a proper apartment to live in while Tong Le had nowhere to stay. It was hilarious!
Tong Le feigned a look of grievance and asked, "Do we really have to stay in the employee dormitory? I'm worried I won’t get enough rest at night. How about I stay at Tian Ling's place for a while? After all, Tian Ling lives alone too; she can keep me company and it would be more convenient for me since I'm pregnant."
Ke Jie thought about it; after all, if Tong Le stayed with Tian Ling, it would be free accommodation without costing him anything—what’s not to like? Moreover, he knew a bit about Tian Ling; she had an aversion to men which meant he wouldn’t have to worry about Tong Le being unfaithful.
Ke Jie responded, "Alright then. During this time, I’ll stay at the employee dormitory while you stay at Tian Ling's place. Tomorrow I need to inspect a project at our partner's company during the day; you can take care of packing up our things at home and move them into the company warehouse—I’ve already arranged everything there."
Tong Le said, "Alright, leave this matter to me."
