Ke Wei Qiang felt a rush of excitement when he heard his son say he wanted to buy a villa for himself. He thought that dealing with Tong Le didn’t seem like such a difficult task after all. Years ago, in order to secure a future for his son, Ke Wenjie, he had mustered the courage to harm Tong Le.
During the years when Tong Le was bedridden, he often found himself reflecting on his actions, especially during certain moments when he felt anxious. For instance, whenever a police car drove into the village or officers came to conduct household registrations, he would instinctively feel guilty. He always feared that the police had uncovered the truth and were coming to arrest him.
However, each time turned out to be just a false alarm. Ke Wei Qiang began to believe that the events of that year would never come to light. So many years had passed, and the person involved was long gone; even if someone wanted to investigate, there would be no evidence left! Besides, he hadn’t directly killed anyone.
Ke Wenjie stood in front of Ke Wei Qiang, hesitating as he urged his father again. “Dad, if you don’t help me, no one else will. Think about how hard I’ve worked these past few years. You can’t just stand by and watch everything I’ve done go to waste! I’ve lost my money and my house; I can’t afford to lose Tongshan Real Estate too!”
Slowly, Ke Wenjie knelt before Ke Wei Qiang and pleaded, “Dad, you’re the only one who can help me. Once Tong Le is completely out of the picture, I’ll buy you a villa and make you the largest shareholder of Tongshan Real Estate. I can sign an agreement with you right now!”
Ke Wei Qiang wasn’t entirely skeptical of his son; he believed in Ke Wenjie. After all, he had helped him deal with Tong Le back then and received a hefty sum as a reward. However, that money had been spent quickly and was long gone.
Grinding his teeth, Ke Wei Qiang knew he couldn’t ignore his son’s plight. If he turned a blind eye out of greed or fear of death, he wouldn’t even be able to rest in peace! He thought it over; as long as he was careful this time, it should go smoothly. After all, with his previous experience, this time would be even easier!
Moreover, with Tong Le’s naive personality, she wouldn’t suspect anything.
“What’s your plan for her this time?” Ke Wei Qiang asked.
Seeing his father agree, Ke Wenjie quickly stood up with a smile on his face. “Dad, here’s what I’m thinking…”
Outside the bedroom door, Jin Feng was eavesdropping. The soundproofing of the door wasn’t great; she pressed her ear against it tightly to catch their conversation.
She gathered some information and learned that Tong Le’s condition was due to Ke Wei Qiang’s actions and that now his claws were reaching out for her again.
Jin Feng felt fear wash over her; she knew that both Ke Wei Qiang and Ke Wenjie were ruthless individuals capable of terrible deeds for money. She gasped quietly and quickly tiptoed to the living room sofa, pretending to play on her phone.
While it seemed like she was occupied with her phone, she was actually trying to mask her panic.
Soon enough, Ke Wei Qiang and Ke Wenjie emerged from the bedroom.
Ke Wei Qiang’s expression was serious as he turned to Jin Feng and said, “Make me some noodles; I’m hungry.”
Ke Wenjie quickly added, “Dad, how about I take you and Aunt Jin out for hot pot? We can enjoy some drinks together—just the three of us. Let’s not bring Mom.”
Ke Wei Qiang couldn't help but smile when he heard that Zhang Huizhi was coming. "Let's get ready and head out! It's time to enjoy the nightlife in the city!"
Across the street, Zhang Huizhi was organizing her toiletries at Lan Qingqing's house. She neatly arranged her things in Lan Qingqing's bathroom while Lan Qingqing, dressed in her pajamas, watched her with a helpless expression.
As Zhang Huizhi continued to tidy up, she said, "Ke Wenjie mentioned that for the next few days, you'll have to suffer and sleep on the sofa while I take your room. You don't mind, do you?"
Lan Qingqing opened her mouth to refuse but Zhang Huizhi quickly added, "At my age, I can't sleep on a sofa. My back won't handle it, and I need my sleep. If I end up with insomnia, that would be a real problem."
Lan Qingqing closed her mouth again. She even considered the idea of staying at a hotel; she couldn't stand being in this house for even a minute longer!
Meanwhile, at the Cruise Restaurant, everyone had gathered as dishes began to arrive at the table. The view from the cruise was spectacular, and the food looked delicious.
Just as all the dishes were served, Tian Ling arrived. At the table, Wu Youyou was unusually quiet; after making a mistake by speaking out of turn earlier, she sat silently in her seat.
Zong Jin glanced at Wu Youyou several times and sensed something was off. Zong Zeyu also noticed the change and asked Wu Youyou, "Are you feeling okay? You're acting strangely today."
Tong Le chimed in, "Is it because you're in a bad mood? Did someone bully you?"
Dao Wen bluntly remarked, "Who could possibly bully her?"
Fan Qinghua was busy pouring red wine for everyone while Tian Ling felt embarrassed about just eating and drinking for free. She helped Fan Qinghua from behind.
Fan Qinghua found Tian Ling annoying and complained several times, "Can't you just sit still for a moment? Why are you always hovering around me?"
Wen Cuizhi observed the dynamics between Zong Jin and Dao Wen throughout the meal. She knew they were pretending to be a couple but noticed that Zong Jin treated Dao Wen differently than usual.
She watched as Zong Jin either handed something to Dao Wen or placed her favorite food right in front of her. At that moment, Zong Jin and Zong Zeyu were also arguing over how to rotate the table.
On the rotating table, Zong Jin pressed down hard with his index and middle fingers while Zong Zeyu across from him tried to turn it back.
Zong Jin glared at Zong Zeyu and commanded, "Wait a minute!"
Zong Zeyu retorted with an attitude, "That dish Tong Le hasn't eaten yet!"
Zong Jin replied, "I think it's you who wants to eat!"
Just as Zong Zeyu was about to snap back, Wen Cuizhi intervened, saying, "How childish! Aren't we adults? Fighting over food like we did when we were kids!"
Zong Zeyu pushed the blame away, saying, "Mom, it was my brother who started the trouble first."
