Lan Qingqing quietly made some decisions in her heart. As she stood at her front door, the moment she opened it, she heard a thud as the door across from her also swung open. The person who emerged was Jin Feng.
Lan Qingqing and Jin Feng locked eyes. She knew who lived across the hall; although she had never seen their face, she was aware of their identity. Jin Feng had also learned from Ke Wei Qiang that the person living there was Ke Wenjie’s Concubine.
Jin Feng gave an awkward smile and nodded at Lan Qingqing. Then, turning back into the house, he called out, "Ke Wei Qiang, I’ve left your meal on the dining table. I’m heading to school to see my daughter."
Both Jin Feng and Lan Qingqing entered the elevator together. Jin Feng pressed the button for the first floor, but Lan Qingqing did not press any button.
Jin Feng asked, "Are you going to the first floor too?"
Lan Qingqing observed Jin Feng closely; he seemed timid and delicate, almost fragile. She tentatively asked, "You should know who I am, right?"
Jin Feng nodded slightly and whispered, "I know."
Lan Qingqing continued, "Why did you and your uncle suddenly come to the city? Did Ke Wenjie send you?"
Jin Feng forced a smile and replied, "Um, Ke Wenjie missed her dad, so we came. Sorry for bothering you these days."
As the elevator descended, Lan Qingqing probed further, "There must be something else going on, right? You seemed to come in quite a hurry."
Jin Feng avoided her gaze and looked down. "I’m not sure about that; I don’t ask about Ke Wei Qiang’s matters."
Just as the elevator was about to reach the first floor, Lan Qingqing said, "Come over for dinner at my place sometime."
Jin Feng nodded in agreement as the elevator doors opened, and they stepped out of the building.
Meanwhile, at Seaside Hotel.
Tong Le had just changed her clothes and stepped out of her room.
Tian Ling excitedly said, "Did you see the chat history? I did it on purpose to annoy Lan Qingqing! She must be furious with us right now. We’re staying in a luxury hotel and enjoying fancy meals while she’s stuck with her future mother-in-law—she must be feeling miserable!"
However, Tong Le was not very optimistic. "This morning, I received news from a private investigator. He said that Ke Wenjie’s father, Ke Wei Qiang, along with that Concubine Jin Feng, have all come to the city. They’re all staying together—upstairs and downstairs."
Tong Le recalled the advice Wen Cuizhi had given her last night and felt a bit uneasy. "I think it’s not a good sign that Ke Wenjie would bring Ke Wei Qiang and Jin Feng into town at such a critical time."
Tian Ling was puzzled. "Maybe it’s just that his father is worried about him and came to check on him?"
Tong Le shook her head. "Ke Wei Qiang is someone who doesn’t show up without a reason. He often lives apart from Zhang Huizhi; their relationship isn’t great. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have sought out a Concubine in the countryside. I believe Ke Wenjie must have other plans."
Tian Ling asked curiously, "What plans?"
Tong Le's expression was one of confusion. I didn't know why, but I had a feeling that things were heading in a bad direction. Just as my aunt had said, Ke Wenjie, who had lost twenty million in cash, was now facing the crisis of divorce with me. One challenge after another would reveal the true nature of a greedy person, turning them back into a demon.
