Ten minutes later, Tong Le and Tian Ling went downstairs for breakfast. In the restaurant, Wen had already done her makeup and was at the self-service area picking out food. Fan Qinghua followed closely behind her, mimicking her every choice.
Seeing Fan Qinghua, Tian Ling grabbed a plate and trailed after him. The three of them moved forward slowly, almost like conjoined twins.
Tong Le glanced toward the lobby and spotted Zong Jin sitting alone at a table by the window, quietly eating. He must have arrived early; his plate was nearly empty, indicating he was about to finish his meal.
As Tong Le surveyed the area, she caught sight of Zong Zeyu. Feeling a bit disappointed, she simply took a bowl of porridge and a boiled egg before sitting down opposite Zong Jin.
Zong Jin looked up at Tong Le and said, "Zeyu left early this morning with his mother."
Tong Le's expression turned worried. "Is something wrong over there?"
Zong Jin replied, "Nothing serious, just urgent."
He glanced in Wen's direction, noticing she had taken her plate to another empty table. He picked up his unfinished orange juice, intending to join her. However, just as he stood up, Fan Qinghua plopped down directly opposite Wen while Tian Ling sat beside her, leaving only one seat vacant at their four-person table.
Zong Jin's intention was clear; he headed toward the empty spot but had to stop midway when Wu Youyou unexpectedly sat down in that very seat. As she settled in, she shot Zong Jin a warning glare that clearly indicated he should stay away from Wen.
With no other choice, Zong Jin turned around and made his way to Tong Le's table instead.
In just a short minute, Tong Le witnessed a dramatic display of emotional entanglements and scheming without uttering a single line herself. Each person at the scene seemed to be calculating their own interests.
As Tong Le ate and laughed, Zong Jin returned to his original spot, looking somewhat dejected. "What are you laughing at?"
Tong Le replied with a grin, "I'm laughing at your difficult pursuit of love!"
Zong Jin countered, "Zeyu isn’t any better off than I am; isn’t he pursuing you too? You’re equally hard to approach."
Tong Le felt awkward. "My situation with him is different from yours with Wen. My identity is too complicated, and I'm not even divorced yet. I can't let Zong Zeyu down; he’s my benefactor."
Zong Jin stated plainly, "Your mother must have told you last night that Zeyu is not only your benefactor but also your betrothed."
Tong Le was taken aback. "What era are we in? Betrothals?"
Zong Jin replied earnestly, "You need to divorce Ke Jie as soon as possible and start your new life."
Tong Le lowered her head to sip her porridge and nodded slightly without responding further.
Zong Jin was preparing to leave the restaurant when he hesitated and asked, "So what should I do to win Wen over?"
Tong Le looked up, her big eyes sparkling with mischief. "Are you ready to go all out?"
Zong Jin raised an eyebrow, clarifying, "It's not about going all out. I just want to get closer to her."
Without thinking, Tong Le blurted out something she herself found ridiculous. "Why don't you join the army, like Zhou Feng?"
Zong Jin's expression froze for three seconds before he asked, "Is joining the army really the answer? Are you sure about that?"
Tong Le immediately shook her head. "No, no, no! I was just joking! Don't actually go join the army!"
Zong Jin pondered for a moment before turning to leave.
Meanwhile, Tong Le thought to herself that Zong Jin absolutely could not join the army. If he did, managing the massive Zong Group would fall solely on Zong Zeyu's shoulders, and it would surely wear him out!
At this thought, Tong Le was taken aback; she found herself feeling a pang of sympathy for Zong Zeyu.
At another table, Wu Youyou was fixated on Wen as she ate, her eyes glued to her with an intensity that could almost make flowers bloom from the gaze.
Wen was eating slowly and completely ignored Wu Youyou.
Wu Youyou finally spoke up loudly, "Since I sat down, you haven't even bothered to say hello?"
Wen didn't even glance at Wu Youyou. "You didn't greet me either. Who's being rude here?"
Wu Youyou slammed her chopsticks down. "What gives you the right to say I'm being rude?"
Wen lifted her head and looked at Wu Youyou with a chilling glare that momentarily silenced her.
Wen shot back with a fierce tone, "If you keep chattering away, do you believe I'll take Zong Jin for myself tonight?"
Wu Youyou sprang to her feet. "You dare! Do you even know what it means to maintain your dignity?"
