Looking out at the night scenery through the car window, Dao Wen thought to herself that it was better to go home and sleep. If she fell asleep now, she wouldn't be able to sleep well when she got home. Over the years, she hadn't really slept well; working in a bar meant her days and nights were turned upside down, and she often worried about money.
Zong Jin said, "Keeping things bottled up makes it easy to lose sleep. I used to be the same way."
Dao Wen turned her head, curious. "You keep things to yourself? Because of work? But you've been doing this for many years now; haven't you managed to adjust your mindset?"
"Well," Zong Jin replied, "a few years ago, it was because of work-related stress that I couldn't sleep. Recently, it's been due to relationship issues."
Dao Wen instantly understood. She didn't respond verbally; she knew what Zong Jin wanted to say next. Although she wasn't in a relationship herself, she could read men's thoughts better than anyone else.
Zong Jin seemed a bit disappointed. "Why don't you continue asking me?"
Dao Wen teased, "Are you trying to say that I'm the reason for your insomnia? You can't sleep because you're thinking about me?"
Unable to hold back her laughter, she wondered if she had really guessed correctly.
Zong Jin felt awkward; he indeed thought that way. He considered it a rather cheesy sentiment, one he had pondered over for quite some time before finally articulating it. He thought he was quite skilled at understanding women's hearts! Before Dao Wen could mock him further, he felt like he had become a master in romance.
Seeing Zong Jin's face turn red, Dao Wen couldn't stop laughing. Although Zong Jin was somewhat dull, he was still special in her social circle.
"By the way," Dao Wen said proactively, "I've sold the bar and plan to start a distillery. If you have good connections, could you introduce me? I’ll make sure you benefit from it."
Zong Jin replied straightforwardly, "I don’t want any benefits. I’ll do whatever you need me to do. I can help you find a location first and then build the factory. I actually know some distillery owners in my circle; I can take you to learn from them. Setting up in the early stages is simple enough; you can recruit from Zong Shi Yan Tuan for staff. You can handle salaries and social security through Zong’s finance department since you're just starting out and your internal structure isn’t fully established yet. Later on, I can help you with market distribution as well, including supply channels for major supermarkets and online and offline sales channels. There's also the popular influencer collaboration model now. Or if you want to create a unique beverage brand, we can do that too."
Dao Wen immediately interrupted him. "Hold on! Zong Jin, if you're doing everything, what am I supposed to do? Just be a decoration?"
At that moment, Zong Jin realized he had said too much. Normally, it took him hours to muster up the courage to say something sweet or flattering; yet here he was talking business non-stop as if it were second nature! Any business conversation flowed easily from his lips like water; after all, he believed every venture would ultimately be profitable.
Taking a deep breath for self-reflection, Zong Jin apologized, "I'm sorry; my occupational habit kicked in. I promised Zong Zeyu before leaving that I wouldn't only talk about business with you. But when you mentioned wanting to start your own venture, I couldn’t help myself."
Dao Wen laughed uncontrollably; she found Zong Jin endearing in his own way—so different from those oily and arrogant men who had been in business for years.
Unconsciously leaning closer to him, Dao Wen didn’t even realize she was giving Zong Jin some form of acknowledgment through her body language.
"Zong Jin," she suggested, "how about we collaborate? I’ll work for you, and if things go well later on, you can give me a larger share of the profits. What do you think?"
While driving, Zong Jin glanced at Dao Wen. The dazzling neon lights illuminated her enchanting face, making him feel flustered.
In just a few seconds of distraction, he lost focus entirely—his hands resting on the steering wheel while forgetting he was driving!
As the car approached another vehicle too closely for comfort, Dao Wen quickly reached out and grabbed the steering wheel, steering them onto another lane.
Zong Jin was startled back into reality and quickly regained his composure.
Just now, Dao Wen's hand just happened to rest on the back of his hand. He felt dizzy, as if he were floating away.
Zong Jin parked the car by the roadside and got out to smoke. Dao Wen followed him out, took a cigarette from Zong Jin, and they stood side by side on the street.
Zong Jin felt that the cigarette in his hand had lost its flavor. He stared intently at Dao Wen; even smoking seemed to take on a different charm with her around. He felt as if his soul had been drawn out into thin threads, floating around her like the slowly dissipating smoke.
Dao Wen turned her head to look at Zong Jin and asked, "So, what do you think? Have you made up your mind? Let's start a distillery together. You can be the big boss, and I'll work for you. You just need to invest; I'll handle everything else."
Zong Jin replied earnestly, "If you’re willing, you can be the boss lady."
Dao Wen tossed her long wavy hair over her shoulder, letting it dance gently in the night breeze. She smiled casually, "I won’t take advantage of you. I know you like me, but right now, I just want to do business with you. If the business goes well and feelings develop along the way, then we can be together. If it doesn’t work out, it’s no loss; this is a perfect opportunity for you to get to know me better, don’t you think?"
Zong Jin couldn’t focus on what Dao Wen was saying anymore; his mind was consumed by one thought: how charming she was, how much he liked her, and how he wanted to marry her.
Dao Wen repeated, "Is that okay, Zong Zong?"
Zong Jin blinked back to reality and cleared his throat before responding, "I’m all ears for you."
Dao Wen laughed and shook her head helplessly. "Love-struck brain, huh? No saving you."
