Lan Qingqing felt increasingly uneasy. She couldn't pinpoint where the feeling came from, but she was certain that Ke Wenjie would face consequences this time. She needed to make a decision quickly, especially considering the child growing inside her; there was no time to waste.
Mo Kai Liang, however, thought Lan Qingqing was being overly pessimistic. Although he harbored resentment towards Ke Wenjie, he believed that even a starving camel is bigger than a horse. No matter how down on his luck Ke Wenjie might be, he wouldn't truly be destitute. After all, Ke Wenjie and Tong Le were still married, which meant there was always a chance for a comeback.
Lan Qingqing glanced at the time on her phone and reminded him that they had plans to meet Tong Le and Tian Ling for lunch. "When you talk to Tong Le, remember the conversation techniques I taught you, okay? Now, let’s rent that Rolls Royce from our car rental company again. You need to change into something appropriate—don’t show any signs of weakness!"
Mo Kai Liang nodded seriously. "Right! I’m just a super wealthy second-generation heir! I’ll be cautious and maintain an aloof demeanor!"
Meanwhile, in a high-end neighborhood, Tong Le arrived at the complex Ke Wenjie had mentioned. Although it appeared to be her first visit, she was already familiar with the area since her private investigator had sent her the location multiple times.
As she stepped out of the car, she spotted Ke Wenjie waiting in the garden. He waved enthusiastically and called out, "Honey! Over here!"
Tong Le walked toward him, feeling somewhat apprehensive. She had come willingly into this trap and was curious about what kind of scheme Ke Wenjie was concocting—was it as toxic as the radioactive materials hidden in the Mountain Water Villa?
Following Ke Wenjie upstairs to his unit, she noted that it was a single unit per floor. Upon entering, she found the place bright and airy; sunlight streamed into the living room through large windows. The layout and lighting of the apartment were impeccable.
Tong Le instinctively examined every wall, searching for signs of any renovations that might indicate hidden secrets. To her surprise, everything appeared flawless.
Ke Wenjie followed her inside with a cheerful demeanor. "This place is specially chosen for you by me from the Real Estate Agency. I had them pick two options based on my strict requirements; since the tenant of the other apartment hasn’t moved out yet, I chose this one instead. Isn’t it spacious and bright? Doesn’t it resemble your dream home?"
Tong Le turned to look at him. His enthusiastic attitude made it seem as if they had never fought before; all their previous conflicts felt like they had never happened.
"Have you lost your mind?" Tong Le asked bluntly. "Or have you been so stressed that your brain isn’t functioning properly? Aren’t we in the middle of a divorce? Plus, the company audit has concluded; you know exactly what you've done."
Ke Wenjie anticipated Tong Le's cold response but wasn't surprised by it. For his ultimate goal, he would endure anything—even if Tong Le put him through ten more humiliations.
Feigning nonchalance, he replied, "I've thought it through; I want to start over with you. Your infidelity isn’t solely your fault; I have my share of responsibility too. I’ve been so busy with work that I neglected your feelings. From now on, I will show you my sincerity and forget everything that happened before—we'll start fresh."
Tong Le couldn't help but laugh. "Even if I've had another man's child, you wouldn't mind?"
Ke Wenjie was resolute. "We will still have our own children in the future. I love you and everything about you; I believe I can do this."
Tong Le sneered in response. "And what about the audit? What do you have to say about all those violations, Ke Wenjie? Do you really think you can start over?"
