At that moment, Tong Le's phone received a WeChat message from Lan Qingqing. "Lele, remember our lunch appointment! My partner and I are on our way!"
Meanwhile, in Ke Wenjie's car, he hummed a little tune as he dialed Zhang Huizhi's number.
Once the call connected, Ke Wenjie felt confident. Tong Le had agreed, which surprised him; he hadn't even had to persuade her much before she relented. He was sure she still had feelings for him. He guessed she knew that Zong Zeyu was just a fleeting interest and would never truly marry her.
Zhang Huizhi exclaimed excitedly, "Really, son? That's wonderful! When you come home tonight, I'll make you something delicious!"
On the other side, in Zhang Huizhi's apartment, she hung up the phone and pondered for a moment before heading straight to Jin Feng's door.
Knocking and entering, she found Ke Wei Qiang playing on his phone in the bedroom while Jin Feng was in the kitchen peeling a pineapple.
Jin Feng wiped her hands and stepped out of the kitchen with a smile. "Ke Wei Qiang wants some pineapple; I'm just getting it ready. You're just in time to join us."
Zhang Huizhi linked her arm with Jin Feng's and slipped into the kitchen. She leaned close and whispered, "Did you talk to your daughter about what I mentioned last time? It's been two days, and I haven't heard back from you!"
Jin Feng felt awkward. "Oh, that matter... I did mention it, but Zi Meng is really timid. She said she just started at the company and isn't familiar with anything. She doesn't know how to help; she's not Tong Le's close friend or anything. It would be strange for a junior employee to suddenly fawn over Tong Le!"
Zhang Huizhi frowned. "Why are you both so stubborn? Is it really that hard to get some medicine? Just let your daughter go find Tong Le and say she made some hot soup for her to drink. Then you can slip her the medicine beforehand—it's that simple! But you make it sound like it's a life-or-death situation!"
Zhang Huizhi looked disgusted.
Jin Feng maintained a calm exterior but was mentally twisting Zhang Huizhi into knots. The way Zhang Huizhi spoke about murder made it sound trivial; clearly, she was someone who only knew how to bark orders at others!
Jin Feng feigned innocence. "Yes, such an easy task! But Zi Meng just can't find a good reason! Why don't you go deliver food to Tong Le? You're her mother-in-law; you've known each other for years! Just go under the pretense of apologizing and bring her some food—she'll definitely eat it!"
Zhang Huizhi slammed her hand on the counter. "Are you trying to get me killed? If Tong Le eats my food and has a miscarriage right there, everyone will know it's my doing! You want me to go to jail?"
Jin Feng couldn't help but retort, "And my daughter wouldn't risk going to jail? That's quite unfair of you to say!"
Zhang Huizhi raised her hand as if to slap Jin Feng across the face. How dare this mistress defy her as the legitimate wife!
Jin Feng was quick on her feet; seeing Zhang Huizhi about to strike, she knocked over a jar of sugar glass on the counter.
The glass shattered loudly, drawing Ke Wei Qiang's attention.
He rushed into the kitchen and saw Jin Feng forcing out a couple of tears. Without asking any questions, he grabbed Zhang Huizhi by her hair and flung her toward the living room.
Zhang Huizhi stumbled against the edge of the coffee table and fell to the ground. Before she could protest, Ke Wei Qiang kicked her hard on the thigh. "You’re here causing trouble again, aren't you? I’ve been nice to you! I should have killed you back then and thrown you into a cesspit!"
Zhang Huizhi curled up on the carpet in fear, glaring fiercely at Jin Feng, who was hiding behind Ke Wei Qiang. Jin Feng had tears in the corners of her eyes, but a smug smile adorned her face. Zhang Huizhi could see it all too clearly!
