Wen Cuizhi smiled like a child, expressing her greatest regret in life: not having more children, especially not having a daughter. "So, I’m placing my hopes on both of you!" she said. "Is that alright?"
Tong Le and Dao Wen exchanged glances, both thinking the same thing as their minds raced with calculations about how much money could be involved if they truly got married.
Dao Wen felt a genuine stir of emotions, but compared to her interest in money and property, her rational side prevailed. She needed to continue assessing Zong Jin, who was rather enigmatic.
Tong Le knew that marrying Zong Zeyu would ensure a life free from financial worries, propelling her to the peak of her life. However, compared to receiving things from the Zong Family without effort, earning her own money felt more reliable.
Quickly, Tong Le spoke up. "Thank you, Auntie. If Zeyu and I do end up getting married, I will definitely contribute an appropriate dowry. Let me see how much I can gather." With that, she began counting on her fingers—houses, cars, cash. Although both the house and car were technically assets she had access to, they would suffice. As for cash, she needed to ensure that the current projects at her company were successful so she could provide a substantial dowry.
Looking up at Zong Jin and Dao Wen urgently, she said, "Please get the construction list for the Distillery ready for me! We can’t let good opportunities slip away. Since we need to find renovation partners anyway, I want it done by us. I won’t mind the workload. With the Zong Group’s business circle project combined with the Distillery project and some smaller projects at my company, I should be able to gather at least ten million in cash within a year—just right for a dowry."
Turning back to Wen Cuizhi, Tong Le promised earnestly, "Auntie, does that sound good?"
Tong Le was serious; she genuinely wanted to be with Zong Zeyu and was working hard towards marriage. As someone without parents or anyone to support her in negotiating a dowry with the in-laws, these matters fell solely on her shoulders.
Wen Cuizhi was somewhat surprised by Tong Le's sincerity; it was heartwarming to see this usually carefree girl being so earnest.
Dao Wen chimed in from the side, "Dowries are typically discussed between parents. Lele, your parents are no longer around, so there’s really no dowry to speak of."
Tong Le paused for a moment before speaking bitterly. "If my parents were still here... If they knew that my partner is from the Zong Family with whom they had an engagement back then, they would surely be very happy. They would give me so much dowry."
Lost in regretful thoughts, Tong Le imagined how different things could have been if she hadn’t married Ke Wenjie but instead had been with Zong Zeyu; it would have been a joyful family reunion.
Under the table, Zong Zeyu tightly held Tong Le's hand and gently whispered, "It’s not too late now. The heavens can see us; the Zong Family is your family too. We will support you."
Zong Jin then added from the side, "Alright then! The construction and renovation of the Distillery will be handled by Tongshan Real Estate. You’ll need to work hard now, Tong Le."
He raised his glass as everyone followed suit.
Wen Cuizhi pointed to two envelopes beside her filled with various asset proofs. "I’ll be waiting for you two lovebirds to come claim your rewards!"
Tong Le couldn’t help but exclaim how enticing it all sounded!
Zong Jin remarked playfully about additional rewards for having children and said he could negotiate that.
Dao Wen sharply pinched Zong Jin's thigh under the table; after all, she hadn’t officially agreed to be with him yet!
Zong Jin endured the pain as his face turned green; in his heart, he already considered himself Dao Wen’s rightful boyfriend!
Meanwhile, at a nightclub...
Wu Youyou stepped out of the car into the noisy atmosphere of the club where everything felt chaotic and confusing.
Wu Youyou found Hou Yi, who was sitting alone in a booth. He handed her a glass of alcohol and patted the seat beside him.
"Are you here by yourself?" Wu Youyou asked.
Hou Yi gestured toward the group of women dancing nearby. "As long as I want, any of them could be mine."
Wu Youyou scoffed, "Aren't you afraid of getting sick?"
While drinking, Hou Yi noted that Tong Le was with Zong Zeyu.
"Yeah, that's obvious," Wu Youyou replied. "They're having a family gathering at my place right now. It won't be long before they get their marriage certificate."
Originally slightly tipsy, Hou Yi suddenly felt sober. He had worked hard to get drunk to ease his mind, but hearing Wu Youyou's words sent him crashing back down.
He remained silent as Wu Youyou finished her whiskey. "I don't want Zong Jin to get married. I don't like that Dao Wen."
Meanwhile, in a nearby booth, Lan Qingqing was playing dice with some of Hou Yi's other friends and noticed Wu Youyou's arrival.
An idea crossed her mind as she turned to the boy next to her. "Do you have any drugs left? Can you give me some?"
The boy perked up, grinning mischievously. "What for? Are you going to give it to Hou Yi? He's already impressive without any help; haven't you experienced that?"
He wore a wicked smile.
Lan Qingqing replied, "It's for the girls. Do you have any?"
