When Zong Jin and Wen Cuizhi saw Wu Youyou, the situation unfolded far beyond what they had anticipated. Zong Jin had received a phone call informing him that Wu Youyou had gotten into trouble after getting drunk, but seeing her in person, broken and mentally shattered, ignited a murderous rage within him.
After inquiring about what happened, he learned that Wu Youyou had endured inhumane torment the previous night. She had lost consciousness while intoxicated and awoke in a small hotel room, exposed and covered in injuries. Pain coursed through her body—her head throbbed, her wounds ached, and her lower body burned with agony.
When she caught sight of herself in the mirror, she was horrified by the state of her battered body. The room was in disarray, littered with broken bottles, remnants of her dignity, and torn clothing. She felt as if she were losing her mind; she had no memory of the previous night and thought she was dreaming until the pain reminded her that this was all too real.
Without hesitation, she called the police. Perhaps similar incidents had occurred at that hotel before; maybe other women who had suffered like her were too scared or ashamed to report it. But she wouldn’t be one of them—she couldn’t accept this reality. She wanted to kill the person who had hurt her!
When Wu Youyou saw Zong Jin, she rushed into his arms, crying. Zong Jin’s heart ached for her; upon learning what she had gone through, he loathed those who harmed her—and himself for not protecting her. He lost his composure, shouting and arguing with the police on-site. Normally calm and collected, he found it impossible to force himself to remain rational in this situation.
Wen Cuizhi quickly summoned their family lawyer and forbade Zong Jin from saying another word. Though she had lived under her husband’s protection for many years, she was a woman who could deeply empathize with Wu Youyou's pain and fear. The priority now was to cooperate with the police to find the perpetrator.
Tong Le learned about the incident through a phone call from Zong Zeyu. At that moment, Tong Le was meeting with project contacts at a construction site when he received the news about Wu Youyou's ordeal. His focus shattered; he immediately prepared to head to the police station to see Wu Youyou. However, Zong Zeyu informed him that Wu Youyou only wanted to see Zong Jin right now. Wen Cuizhi had already arranged for a family doctor and psychologist to be present throughout the process—to assess her injuries and stabilize her emotions.
Zong Zeyu mentioned that Wen Cuizhi had taken care of everything needed for cooperating with the police investigation and preparing their lawyer. The police had already uncovered some leads; they should soon apprehend those who harmed Wu Youyou.
Tong Le had heard of similar incidents before—nightclubs often hosted horrific cases where intoxicated girls were taken advantage of after being drugged or excessively drunk. He struggled to control his emotions as he asked how many perpetrators were involved and who had assaulted Wu Youyou. She had only recently returned home and had few friends; how could she have ended up in such a situation?
Zong Zeyu replied seriously that preliminary investigations indicated four male suspects. Wu Youyou herself said she had gone to the nightclub with Hou Yi, but it was Hou Yi who got drunk first and left; she remained there alone drinking before losing consciousness.
Tong Le couldn’t contain his rage any longer—Hou Yi? Was he responsible for putting Wu Youyou in such a predicament? He was out of his mind!
Zong Zeyu tried to calm him down, saying not to panic; results would come soon. He would pick Tong Le up later so he could comfort Wu Youyou while he took care of work matters—Wu Youyou was with his mother and brother.
After hanging up, Tong Le found himself unable to focus on work anymore. If only Wu Youyou had been lucky enough not to be harmed, perhaps he could have consoled himself. But now that he knew Hou Yi was involved at the nightclub last night, he couldn’t remain calm! Hou Yi was reckless; it could very well be his people who hurt Wu Youyou!
Standing at the construction site surrounded by axes, hammers, chainsaws, and drills, Tong Le felt an overwhelming urge to take up a chainsaw and confront Hou Yi’s company directly. He needed answers from Hou Yi about what happened last night! Grabbing an axe impulsively, he got into his car and headed straight for Hou Yi’s company.
Tong Le stuffed the axe into his canvas bag and made his way to Hou Yi's office floor. At that moment, Hou Yi had just arrived at work. Despite being hungover from the previous night, he appeared surprisingly energetic today.
When Hou Yi spotted Tong Le in the reception area, he thought he was seeing things. He assumed his hangover had caused him to hallucinate; how could Tong Le possibly be at his company? This was more astonishing than a gorilla or a panda showing up at the office!
Hou Yi stood frozen for a moment, but then he watched in disbelief as Tong Le, sitting on the sofa, turned to meet his gaze and suddenly pulled an axe from the canvas bag. Without hesitation, he stood up and charged at him with it.
At that moment, Hou Yi still couldn't comprehend what was happening. He instinctively blurted out that it must be a hallucination—he had even imagined an axe!
As Tong Le swung the axe forcefully toward him, a nearby employee shouted, "President Hou!"
It was only then that Hou Yi realized this was no illusion!
He turned to flee, but Tong Le pursued him with the axe raised high. Hou Yi dashed down the corridor until he reached the end, where Tong Le brought the axe crashing down onto a mural behind him. The mural shattered in the middle, and debris rained down on Hou Yi's head as the axe struck the wall.
Terrified, Hou Yi stared at Tong Le. He noticed the axe handle suspended in mid-air and finally understood that this was all too real—Tong Le was trying to kill him! Fear paralyzed him; his legs felt weak beneath him!
