After leaving the Wen Family, Tong Le felt much lighter. Although she hadn't received a clear answer from Zong Jin, Cui Zhi's words provided her with a sense of comfort.
As she entered the living room, she spoke to Zhou Zishuo, who was sitting silently on the sofa. "I'll tidy up those blueprints and documents tomorrow and take them back to my study. You don't need to worry about it. Let's head to the supermarket later and buy some things for your parents."
Zhou Zishuo's face showed his displeasure. "You still want to continue working with Zong?"
Tong Le replied, "Of course I want to make money. I wouldn't want to give up the Distillery project."
Zhou Zishuo stood up. "You know very well that Zong Jin has feelings for you and that's why he wants to collaborate. Everyone can see that he wants to pursue a relationship with you; that's why he's being so generous in helping you!"
Tong Le didn't see any problem with this. "What else could it be? Zong Jin helps me just because he purely wants to help? With no ulterior motives? Or is this some kind of charity? After all these years, you should understand the ways of the world better than this. Everyone who has grown up and entered society does things with intention. Every word they say, every expression they show, every phone call they make is calculated and comes with various purposes—that's just reality, that's how society works. Their motives are usually one of two things: either to make money or to seek emotional or physical connections. Are there any exceptions? In a money-driven society, being able to leverage emotional factors to obtain what you want is also a skill."
Zhou Zishuo didn't agree with Tong Le's perspective. He understood her situation; after all, she had been struggling for years, especially since their brother Zhou Feng passed away. He and their parents relied on her for support. Back then, all the financial burdens fell on her shoulders as a woman. If Tong Le hadn't been pragmatic, she wouldn't have come this far.
Zhou Zishuo couldn't argue against her because she was right—everyone approached each other with intentions. His own motive was one of those two: for love.
He wanted Tong Le's affection and wished to be with her forever.
Tong Le continued, "So don’t worry about me; I won’t let myself suffer losses. By the way, how’s Zhou Ting doing? I haven’t heard from her in a few days; she hasn’t even sent me a WeChat message."
Zhou Zishuo replied, "She’s buried in work like a machine. She goes to work during the day and studies at night, preparing for exams—just like before—without all those distracting thoughts."
Tong Le felt relieved. "That’s good; she should keep going down that path and stay true to herself. Once the Distillery project is fully underway, you’ll be in charge of it. You two siblings are heading in different directions—one towards academia and the other into business."
Zhou Zishuo didn’t want to be involved in the Distillery project, but he had no choice; he wanted to stay by Tong Le's side no matter where she went.
Tong Le returned to Tongshan Real Estate Company.
As soon as she entered her office, she saw Hou Yi sprawled out on the luxurious sofa that Zong Zeyu had bought for himself—now shamelessly occupied by Hou Yi.
Tong Le walked in and began shooing him away. Grabbing a feather duster from a nearby vase, she waved it at his backside. "Get up! Who told you to lie down here?"
At that moment, Jiang Zhichao rushed into the room with an apologetic look on his face. "Sister, I didn’t let him in; he insisted on coming in."
Tong Le pushed Hou Yi onto a nearby chair and took out a contract from her bag, handing it to Jiang Zhichao. "Starting today, you’re mainly responsible for the Distillery project. Hurry up and catch up on everything."
Jiang Zhichao was overjoyed. "Sister, you’re letting me lead such a big project! This is what you were talking about before!"
Tong Le waved him off impatiently. "Go on; I have other things to do."
Jiang Zhichao left the office excitedly while Tong Le sat down at her desk, looking at Hou Yi who was yawning.
Hou Yi casually remarked, "You’re quite generous with your subordinates; do you really trust them that much?"
Tong Le said, as they had been through thick and thin together, what was there not to trust?
Hou Yi retorted, "Then why can't you be a bit more generous with me? You won't even let me sleep on the sofa."
Tong Le got straight to the point. "No more nonsense. I contacted the Zong Family on my way here. Wu Youyou is currently unavailable. If you want to visit her in person, you'll have to wait a few days until her mood stabilizes."
