Hou Yi watched Tong Le bustling about, a hint of confusion crossing his face. "Aren't you officially together with Zong Zeyu? Why do I not see a trace of the happiness of a lovesick woman on your face? Instead, you look like a spinning top."
Tong Le blurted out, "I'm saving up for my dowry!"
Hou Yi froze for a moment, feeling an overwhelming surge of jealousy that was more intense than sour pickles! He had hoped that Tong Le wasn't happy, that her relationship with Zong Zeyu was merely superficial. He wished that Zong Zeyu was just playing around with her feelings! In his life, he had never been jealous of many men, but Zong Zeyu was the first.
Fuming, Hou Yi frowned and pouted, clearly displeased.
Tong Le noticed Hou Yi's expression and reminded him, "Hey, are you going to say something? What are you thinking?"
Hou Yi snapped back to reality, speaking through gritted teeth. "Did you just say something?"
Tong Le replied, "Of course I did! Are you deaf? I asked if you have any evidence that links Wu Youyou's incident to Lan Qingqing?"
Hou Yi responded bluntly, "I don't have any. I'm just suspicious."
Tong Le pressed on, "You have a wide network, especially in the nightclub scene. Can you help me look into it?"
Hou Yi countered, "Aren't you afraid I'll turn around and tell Lan Qingqing that you're suspecting her?"
Tong Le laughed. "Then go ahead and tell her! If you want to be a fence-sitter, that's your choice; I can't control you. Besides, even if Lan Qingqing finds out, our relationship is already strained. If I suspect her out of personal grievances, what's wrong with that?"
Hou Yi looked at Tong Le reasoning with him. Her small lips were rosy and full; when she argued her point, they moved rapidly—somewhat annoying yet endearing at the same time.
Tong Le reminded him again, "You're acting strange!"
Hou Yi stated directly, "Since you suspect Lan Qingqing and I do too, why don't I just take care of her for you? That way, it resolves your personal vendetta and avenges Wu Youyou."
Tong Le felt like she was talking to a brick wall. "What if I said I suspect you poisoned Wu Youyou? Can you take care of yourself then?"
Hou Yi took a deep breath. "You really enjoy provoking me."
Tong Le maintained a serious yet fake smile. "You really enjoy arguing!"
Hou Yi stood up. "Fine, I'll help you. Just remember to set up a time for me to apologize to Wu Youyou."
Tong Le said, "You're not completely heartless; you're better than I imagined."
Hou Yi replied, "It's just that I'm not as cold-hearted around you. Didn't you say it yourself? I have a responsibility regarding Wu Youyou's situation."
He turned towards the door. "By the way, the gift for Wu Youyou is in the main hall. The gift for you is in the file box on the left side of your desk."
With that said, Hou Yi left the office and walked away from the scene.
Tong Le opened the file box, and inside was the Red Woven Bracelet that originally belonged to her, the bracelet her mother had left for her. That lunatic, Hou Yi, finally decided to return it to her. Tong Le quickly put the bracelet on her wrist; from now on, she couldn't let it be taken away again.
