Hou Yi was left speechless by Tong Le's sharp words. Under normal circumstances, no woman would dare to confront him like that; he would have kicked them away without a second thought. But Tong Le was different. The more she scolded him, the happier he felt. He actually enjoyed her creative insults.
Soon, Hou Yi saw Wu Youyou, but he couldn't muster a smile. He had thought that after what she had been through, she would only suffer some emotional trauma. Physical injuries would heal with time, and with Wu Youyou's character, it was just a matter of time before she recovered. However, seeing her now made him understand the saying: one cannot advise others without experiencing their suffering.
Wu Youyou's mental state had not improved; in fact, it seemed to have worsened. Wen Cuizhi not only hired a family doctor to keep watch over her but also brought in two psychologists to help her, yet none of it worked.
Wu Youyou sat on the balcony outside her bedroom, lost in thought. The sun was shining brightly, but it couldn't warm her weary spirit.
As Tong Le and Hou Yi entered the house, they stood at the balcony door. Wen Cuizhi quietly reminded Tong Le that if Wu Youyou was unwilling to talk, they should refrain from pushing her; her emotions were unstable, and she had just had an outburst that morning.
Tong Le nodded in understanding and whispered to Hou Yi, "Pay attention!"
Hou Yi walked over to the balcony without greeting Wu Youyou. He stood at the edge, looking out at the scenery and said, "From here, you can see what's happening at that house over there." Suddenly excited, he exclaimed, "Oh! They're fighting! What's going on? Are they pulling each other's hair? Do women fight like this? It can't be about a love rival, can it?"
Wu Youyou looked up at Hou Yi with some curiosity; she recognized the family from the villa community where many prominent figures lived. She felt a twinge of gossiping instinct.
Standing up from her chair, Wu Youyou moved closer to Hou Yi. He turned his head toward her and said playfully, "If you like watching fights so much, why don't you hit me a couple of times? I won't hit back."
Realizing she had been tricked, Wu Youyou didn’t get angry. Instead, she raised her fist and aimed for Hou Yi's eye. It had been a long time since she had hit someone; feeling depressed at home for so long while everyone around her offered gentle advice was suffocating. She didn’t need that; Hou Yi was right there for her to take out her frustrations on.
Hou Yi covered his left eye and exclaimed, "You really hit me!"
Wu Youyou felt an exhilarating sense of release! She was on a roll and wanted to throw another punch!
As she reached for another strike, her previously dull eyes suddenly sparkled with determination—the urge to make Hou Yi submit was strong.
Tong Le stood nearby and hadn’t seen Wu Youyou like this in ages; she immediately seized the opportunity.
Tong Le shouted excitedly at Wu Youyou, "You! Go upstairs! I'll join you and Hou Yi for a fight; there are boxing gloves and a punching bag in the activity room upstairs! Let’s go have some fun!"
Wu Youyou turned around. When she saw Tong Le's nervous yet happy expression, she realized that after feeling so low for so long, she finally felt alive again. She genuinely wanted to throw punches—anyone would do—as long as it allowed her to vent her frustrations. That punch she threw at Hou Yi's face had indeed made her feel much better.
Without hesitation, Wu Youyou headed upstairs. Tong Le quickly suggested, "How about you eat something first? It wouldn’t be fair if you fight us on an empty stomach."
Wu Youyou retorted defiantly, "Who says I can't take you both on? I'll just eat a couple of pieces of chocolate."
At the door, Wen Cuizhi heard Wu Youyou mention food and was overjoyed; she immediately instructed the housekeeper to prepare something to eat.
As Wu Youyou devoured noodles with gusto, Tong Le and Hou Yi sat on the sofa in the living room. Hou Yi applied ice to his left eye—after all, he had received quite a bruise.
Tong Le couldn’t hold back her laughter and said, "Honestly, I never expected your trick would work! But you've opened my eyes too; Wu Youyou just needed an outlet for her emotions. All those comforting words were useless."
Hou Yi expressed his dissatisfaction, "You go ahead and fight her! Just try and see how hard she hits! They say you shouldn't hit someone's face, but how am I supposed to show my face to anyone after that?"
Tong Le chuckled, "Come on, a real man can't back down. If you just sit there and take a beating, Wu Youyou will be fine in no time. It's worth it!"
At that moment, Wu Youyou, feeling full, walked over from behind the sofa. "Alright, I'm done eating. I'm going upstairs to box."
Tong Le immediately grabbed Hou Yi's arm. "Let's go! Up we go!"
