Zong Jin was anxious, his concern for Dao Wen overshadowing the importance of the Annual Meeting. In comparison, Dao Wen's well-being took precedence. Without hesitation, Zong Jin lifted Dao Wen into his arms. She pressed her right hand against his arm, her voice trembling as she insisted, "I'm fine. I just want to be alone for a while."
Zong Jin felt that Dao Wen was merely putting on a brave face. However, upon learning the true reason from Tong Le, he realized that Dao Wen was not physically weak; it was an emotional issue.
Tong Le turned to Zong Jin and said, "Take Dao Wen to a room to rest. Give her some warm water and a bit of candy; she just needs some quiet time."
Listening to Tong Le, Zong Jin carried Dao Wen away. Tong Le then faced Hou Yi with a serious expression. "Where did you see Zhou Feng?" Zhou Feng was Dao Wen's ex-boyfriend—one could even say ex-husband—who had died several years ago. "Are you sure the person you saw was Zhou Feng?"
Hou Yi became intrigued; he hadn't heard such a melodramatic love story in ages. A man who had been dead for many years turned out to be alive, living abroad while leaving a lovesick woman in their homeland year after year. He found the irony of the situation amusing and couldn't help but chuckle.
Seeing Hou Yi's reaction, Tong Le's fists clenched in anger as she nearly lunged at him. "Don't make me hit you! Is this something to laugh about? If it were you, would you still find it funny?"
Hou Yi stopped laughing. Although he enjoyed Tong Le's fierce demeanor, the thought of using a fake death to deceive himself about his feelings for women made him furious enough to imagine confronting the man and exacting revenge.
Tong Le pressed on, "Where did you see Zhou Feng? I'm asking you again—are you sure that person is the Zhou Feng from the photo?"
Hou Yi recalled clearly; his memory didn't fail him. He had met Zhou Feng several times during a business deal that was quite unusual. Zhou Feng had guided them through a border area rife with conflict and danger, where they risked their lives for the sake of profit.
"I’m certain it was him," Hou Yi replied seriously. "But that was last year. If Dao Wen is looking for him now, he’s likely moved or may have died in battle."
Tong Le frowned at the mention of dying in battle. "Died in battle?"
"That area has been war-torn for years," Hou Yi explained. "You can imagine—two gangs fighting over resources and money. It’s bloody. When I went there, helicopters flew overhead while we had to watch our steps for landmines; we needed soldiers to guide us or we could easily get blown up."
Tong Le felt uneasy hearing this; after all, her own country had been stable since her birth, and she had only learned about wars from history books. She believed Hou Yi because it wasn't surprising for him to risk his life for business.
However, she couldn't understand how Zhou Feng could appear in such a place after being declared dead.
"If I go there with Dao Wen, would that be possible?" Tong Le asked.
Hou Yi thought Tong Le was joking. "A war zone? You might get shot at any moment! Are you serious about going there for a man?"
Tong Le wasn't sure but knew Dao Wen would definitely go; she understood her friend well enough to know that Dao Wen would insist on seeing things for herself—she wouldn't settle for hearsay.
"I'm only asking if it's possible," Tong Le insisted earnestly.
Hou Yi thought this woman must be out of her mind. When he went there himself, he was scared out of his wits, yet this little figure, Tong Le, had enough courage to go.
Hou Yi said, "If you really want to go, you can, but I need to make some arrangements for you in advance. I don’t want anything to happen to you."
Tong Le replied, "Alright, as long as you say that. But you don’t need to make any arrangements. Just provide me with some information and contacts. If we really decide to go, we’ll handle the rest ourselves."
With that, Tong Le turned and left, heading off to find Dao Wen.
Hou Yi wanted to say something more, but Tong Le’s small figure had already disappeared into the distance. He found himself liking her even more; she was fearless, even in the face of death.
At that moment, the Annual Meeting had officially begun. Performances were taking place on stage, and Hou Yi looked around for his buddy Winston but couldn’t find him anywhere. Eventually, he spotted Winston sitting in the front row of the stage.
On stage, a dance performance was underway. Hou Yi had no interest in the show and walked straight up behind Winston, who was staring intently at Jin Zi Meng dancing on stage.
Hou Yi glanced at Winston and then at Jin Zi Meng on stage; he realized his buddy was smitten.
Meanwhile, in the lounge, Tong Le found a room with the door slightly ajar. She pushed the door open and entered. Inside, Zong Jin wore a serious expression.
Zong Jin had already learned why Dao Wen was troubled and had also heard news that Zhou Feng might still be alive.
He handed Dao Wen a cup of warm water and spoke in a voice as warm as the drink in his hand, "I understand how you feel. I will help you find out his whereabouts. If he is still alive, I will bring him back. Once he arrives, I will accept whatever the outcome may be."
