Du Guangwei returned to his office, rubbing his hands together in excitement. He quickly called his small team.
When the call connected, he couldn't contain his eagerness. "Come to my place tomorrow morning; the piglets are coming, and they’re being delivered right to our door. Hua Jie is backing us up, so don’t mess this up!"
After hanging up, Du Guangwei stood up and walked over to the dressing mirror. His figure matched his round face, giving off an honest appearance that exuded a sense of stability. He spat into his palms twice and rubbed them together, smoothing down the strands of hair on his forehead. He couldn't help but admire himself in the mirror, thinking what a refreshing young man he was!
Filled with joy, he returned to Lan Qingqing's hospital room. Before entering, he straightened his demeanor, as if presenting two different faces to the world.
Du Guangwei approached Lan Qingqing's bedside, adopting a serious tone. "Miss Lan, I just spoke with our institution's doctor. The surgery schedule is packed, but there’s a slot available tomorrow morning between appointments. If you really want this procedure done, it has to be then. What do you think?"
Lan Qingqing sat up excitedly in her bed. "Of course! I was worried you wouldn’t do it for me. We’ve signed a contract, so it’s not like this liposuction procedure will make a difference! Besides, if anything were to happen to the baby in my belly, I wouldn’t blame you; I’m fully aware and have signed a waiver. I’m doing this voluntarily—just hoping for a safe outcome for the child since I really don’t want to keep it."
Du Guangwei smiled broadly. "Yes, yes! In this day and age, it’s rare to find someone as understanding and agreeable as you! You truly are beautiful inside and out!"
Holding a heart-shaped mirror in one hand and gesturing at her face with the other, Lan Qingqing said, "I still feel like my temples could use some filling; they’re not plump enough."
Du Guangwei's gaze roamed over Lan Qingqing's body as he assessed her waist and abdomen. She truly had a great physique; despite everything she had been through, she hadn’t lost her shape. But that wasn’t the main concern—the child in her belly was something else entirely; it had survived against all odds. If he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he would never have believed it.
His eyes grew greedier as he thought about how much he adored the living donor that Hua Rongxiao had sent him—she was like a living treasure!
Lan Qingqing glanced at him sideways and asked, "Do you have any more?"
Du Guangwei quickly shook his head and waved his hands. "No more! Just focus on resting."
As the door closed behind him, Lan Qingqing called Mo Kai Liang. She felt a bit resentful that he hadn’t come to visit or take care of her during these days; she wondered if he had become aloof after making some money.
When her call didn’t go through, she sent him a WeChat message: "If you don’t come see me soon, don’t bother coming at all!"
Five minutes later, Mo Kai Liang transferred 100,000 yuan to her account.
All of Lan Qingqing’s grievances vanished as she looked at the message from Mo Kai Liang: "I’m still busy and out of town right now. Wait for me to return; I’ll make it up to you properly."
She quickly accepted the money and felt delighted; having someone who rarely showed up but frequently sent money was quite satisfactory—what more could she ask for?
As night fell, Zong Group's Annual Meeting concluded smoothly. Zong Zeyu and Zong Jin saw off several government leaders and sighed in relief as their cars drove away.
Wen Cuizhi approached them with satisfaction. "Make sure to rest well tonight; we have meetings with foreign bosses in the next couple of days and need to maintain good relations with the government too. You both must handle next year’s investment projects well; Zong has reached this scale and carries significant social responsibility. You need to generate revenue for the country and provide more job opportunities for the people."
Zong Zeyu moved behind Wen Cuizhi and placed his hands on her shoulders. "Don’t worry, Mom; I’ve got everything under control. I’ll have the driver take you home; my brother and I won’t be going back tonight."
Wen Cuizhi rested her hand on Zong Zeyu's arm affectionately. "I know; go spend time with your wives! Once you have wives, you forget your mother—I knew this would happen."
Zong Jin's smile was tinged with bitterness. "Mom, after I see Dao Wen off, I'll return to the big house to keep you company. I'm staying home tonight."
Wen Cuizhi sensed her eldest son's feelings. "What happened? Did you have a fight with Dao Wen?"
Zong Jin took a deep breath, wanting to explain but unsure how. It felt as if life had played a cruel joke on him, giving him a piece of candy wrapped around shards of broken glass.
Zong Zeyu interjected, "Mom, let's talk about it later. You should go back and rest."
Wen Cuizhi didn't press further; the children's emotions were something they needed to handle on their own.
After Wen Cuizhi left, Zong Zeyu patted Zong Jin on the shoulder. "Well then, my wife and I will head out. Are you going to see Dao Wen home?"
Zong Jin nodded. "Yeah, drive slowly on the way."
Zong Zeyu felt a bit uneasy as he walked backward, looking at Zong Jin while reminding him, "Brother, remember to fight for it. That's what you taught me before."
Zong Jin smiled faintly. "I know, I'll do my best."
