Upon hearing the name Zong Caishan, Tong Le's expression involuntarily reacted.
Hou Yi noticed this subtle change and became intrigued. "What’s this? Do you know him? You seem quite familiar with the name."
Tong Le shook her head. "Not really, but this name has been popping up quite frequently lately."
She looked puzzled. "Why are you asking about him? Did he offend you, or do you have business with him?"
Hou Yi replied, "It's neither business nor offense; I just want to inquire a bit. So, this person has significant ties with the Zong Family?"
Tong Le initially hesitated to elaborate since she didn’t know much about Zong Caishan. However, it was rare for someone like Hou Yi to be curious about someone else, and she instinctively felt that Hou Yi was looking for trouble regarding Zong Caishan.
Coincidentally, Zong Caishan was also someone Tong Le was curious about. His sudden emergence as a film investor seemed inexplicable, especially since he had unexpectedly connected with the newcomer Jin Zi Meng. Moreover, Zong Caishan had a complicated relationship with the Zong Family.
Last time she heard from Zong Zeyu, he mentioned that Zong Caishan owed the Zong Family two hundred million in cash for nearly eight or nine years without repayment—a fact well-known among industry veterans.
Tong Le boldly speculated, "Did Zong Caishan owe you money? Or did he cause you some trouble?"
Hou Yi chuckled. "You’re quite the guesser. But it’s not about owing money; it’s something far worse."
Curious, Hou Yi asked, "How well do you really know this person?"
Tong Le replied, "I don’t know much, but I’ve heard he’s not a good person. Years ago, he owed the Zong Family two hundred million and hasn’t paid it back. In any case, he has no real connection to the Zong Family; if there is one, it’s just about his debts. So if you’re planning to confront him, don’t drag the Zong Family into it."
Hou Yi scoffed. "You keep bringing up the Zong Family as if they’re so good to you. Do you have some kind of crush on Zong Zeyu?"
Tong Le shot him a disdainful look. "You asked me about Zong Caishan; I’m just responding. Why do you have to involve the Zong Family? And is there something wrong with liking Zong Zeyu?"
Hou Yi stepped closer to her. "What exactly is so great about Zong Zeyu? I just can’t wrap my head around it."
Tong Le didn’t want to answer that question and leaned on her cane, preparing to leave. But Hou Yi blocked her path. "Alright, let’s not discuss that. Let’s talk about something else. Have you asked Jin Zi Meng what kind of evidence Jin Feng had that could lead to Ke Wenjie causing such trouble without any proof?"
Tong Le replied, "I did ask, but Jin Zi Meng doesn’t know either. Jin Feng is very protective of her, so given his personality, he wouldn’t share too much with her. He probably didn’t want to drag Jin Zi Meng into this mess, which is why he was so secretive. In the end, no one expected it would lead to a fatal outcome."
Hou Yi sighed in resignation. "So that leads us nowhere; with Jin Feng dead, all evidence and leverage are gone."
Tong Le asked, "Do you have any other questions?"
Hou Yi continued blocking her way stubbornly. After thinking for a moment, he still couldn’t let it go. "I still don’t understand what’s so special about Zong Zeyu. Also, do you really feel nothing for me at all?"
Tong Le instinctively turned around to glance at the memorial hall behind her and then at the building nearby where ashes were stored. Being asked such questions in this setting felt rather unsettling.
She reminded him, "If I didn’t know you were just an eccentric weirdo, I might think you were possessed by a ghost! Asking such inappropriate questions in this kind of place—do you think that’s suitable? Is it polite?"
