Ke Jie reacted, his expression turning pale. "That so-called Cleaning Staff from the property management—are they one of yours? Did the Cleaning Staff kill someone?"
Ying Rong Xiao nodded. "Yes, that Cleaning Staff is mine. I placed her in the property management a long time ago. On the surface, she appears to be just a cleaning lady, but in reality, she is my informant. After I gave her the order, she took care of Wan Zhang within ten minutes."
Ke Jie was puzzled. "Why would you arrange for a killer to work as a Cleaning Staff? Why not have her go to Wan Zhang's house as a live-in maid? Wouldn't that make it easier?"
Ying Rong Xiao countered, "If it were as you suggested, wouldn't that raise even more suspicion about the murder?"
Ke Jie was at a loss for words.
Ying Rong Xiao continued, "Having the Cleaning Staff kill Wan Zhang was just one of my many plans. When I arranged for her to work in the villa area, I didn't even know Wan Zhang yet. I have all the information about the residents in that entire villa community; she helped me gather it. You underestimate her ability to gather information; she has been quite helpful to me, and of course, I've given her what she deserves in return."
Only then did Ke Jie begin to understand. "So you sent your informant to work in the villa area just to collect information on those wealthy people? And then you married Wan Zhang?"
Ying Rong Xiao admitted, "That's right. Among all the villa owners, I chose the easiest target—a rich old man. Wan Zhang is indeed a prime catch: he has no wife and only an incompetent son, and on top of that, he’s quite lecherous. Tell me, if I didn’t take action against him, wouldn’t that be a waste of such an easy opportunity?"
Ying Rong Xiao taught him, "If you want to get close to the rich, you have to immerse yourself among them."
The more Ke Jie listened, the more bewildered he became. "So how did your informant manage to kill Wan Zhang? His villa has surveillance cameras; didn’t they catch anything?"
Ying Rong Xiao shrugged. "She had already figured out where the cameras were positioned. Don’t underestimate her just because she’s a woman; she’s quite capable. She climbed over the wall from the backyard to reach the second floor and then jumped into Wan Zhang's room, avoiding all the surveillance cameras. Before Wan Zhang could react, she injected him with a needle and left him unconscious. Then she returned through the same route and went back to tending to weeds in the backyard. Not long after that, Lan Qingqing—the reckless one—showed up as a scapegoat."
Ke Jie instinctively swallowed hard. Even with his imagination, he never would have guessed that it was the Cleaning Staff who committed murder or how she did it.
Seeing Ke Jie’s stunned expression, Ying Rong Xiao asked, "What’s wrong? Are you scared? A professional killer treats murder like slaughtering chickens—quick and precise, leaving no trace behind."
Ke Jie remained silent for a moment. In the past, he would have been shocked by this revelation, but now it seemed less significant—perhaps spending too much time around Ying Rong Xiao had desensitized him to murder.
He spoke up again. "This time Lan Qingqing is definitely going to die. What about Mo Kai Liang? They conspired together to harm my mother; I want Mo Kai Liang to meet the same fate."
Ying Rong Xiao couldn’t help but laugh. "You really can’t keep your cool, can you? Don’t worry; anyone who crosses you will be dealt with."
At that moment, Ying Rong Xiao’s phone rang—it was one of her subordinates calling.
Once connected, Ying Rong Xiao pressed the speakerphone button and said, "Go ahead; what’s going on?"
The man on the other end said, "Zheng Jie, Lan Qingqing has been released."
