Tong Le hurriedly took out her phone to search for information related to the Charity Foundation. As she searched, she recalled what Hou Yi had previously told her—that charity organizations were often breeding grounds for evil deeds.
She dialed Hou Yi's number, and he picked up almost instantly.
"Look who decided to call me! Missed me, did you? I came by your office today, but you weren't there. I sent you a message, and you didn't reply. What kind of woman are you?" he said, a hint of excitement in his voice.
Tong Le was confused. "Why would I call you for no reason? It’s not like I check in on you every day. Are you free now? Want to meet at the pub? I need to talk to you about what you said regarding the charity organization."
Hou Yi agreed and sent her the address.
Half an hour later, at the pub.
Hou Yi ordered a strong drink and looked disdainfully at the fruit wine in Tong Le's glass. "You drink this stuff? Do you think you're three years old?"
Dao Wen, sitting nearby, was munching on some fruit. She had considered ordering something stronger too but decided against it.
Hou Yi didn’t understand. "Why not celebrate a little? Those troublemakers are finally gone; shouldn’t we toast?"
Dao Wen interrupted, "I said no means no. Girls shouldn’t drink so much. If you want to drink, go ahead, but don’t drag Tong Le into it. Besides, I can’t drink; I still have to drive."
Hou Yi grew impatient. "Come on! You all brought me to a bar; am I just supposed to eat fruit here? Tong Le is already divorced; she’s not a little girl anymore!"
Tong Le grabbed a handful of pistachios and threw them at Hou Yi's head. "You’re the one who’s divorced! I just believe that without experiencing storms, one cannot see rainbows!"
Hou Yi scoffed, "And Zong Zeyu is seeing rainbows now? You all are so high and mighty."
"Let’s get serious," Tong Le said. "What do you know about Hua Rongxiao’s charity organization? I have a feeling there are other forces behind her."
Hou Yi wasn’t surprised. "There’s definitely another force behind Hua Rongxiao—ninety percent chance of it. Otherwise, how could she manage such a huge organ trafficking operation all by herself? The police are investigating the massive profit chain behind this. Analyzing it from the perspective of the Charity Foundation makes sense; the most suspicious figures are those leading it. However, from my quick research, aside from Hua Rongxiao, one of the top three shareholders is involved in healthcare, while the third is a mysterious person with the surname Xiao—whose identity information is all fake and whose shares are held by someone else."
Tong Le's eyes lit up. "So this person named Xiao is hiding behind Hua Rongxiao?"
Hou Yi smiled slightly. "Most likely, but usually people like that are hard to catch. You only know their surname; everything else is unknown to you. And chances are they’re hiding abroad where there are no extradition treaties. Otherwise, why would Hua Rongxiao be in such a hurry to leave after her incident? It’s clearly to seek refuge with someone more powerful."
Hou Yi raised his glass and shook his head. "This isn’t something for you to worry about; that requires international investigation by the police. Don’t dwell on it."
