Jiang Shui Su disliked many people in the Ghost Messenger team. 0

He couldn't pinpoint when they had adopted that irritating demeanor, often feeling the need to comment on various aspects of the mortal world. Their words dripped with the arrogance and prejudice of the immortals, filled with disdain. From his memories of his past life, it seemed that this attitude had begun to emerge over two hundred years ago within the Ghost Messenger ranks. 0

Many had been Ghost Messengers for thousands of years, monotonously repeating tasks they had performed countless times before, efficient yet utterly bored. They began to find amusement at the expense of the living, labeling those who passed away normally as mundane and unremarkable, while calling those who died unexpectedly foolish unlucky souls. Occasionally, they would take advantage of their work to alter the lifespans of certain individuals, allowing those who should live to ninety to only reach fifty, casually erasing the remaining forty years under the pretense that it was the person's own wish. 0

Some Ghost Messengers who disagreed with this behavior had argued with them, but after several heated exchanges, no one emerged unscathed. Instead, their superiors discovered the disputes and reprimanded everyone harshly. He chose not to engage in these arguments; instead, he diligently carried out his work. Finding the Underworld uninteresting, he proposed to experience life on Earth again and undergo several more cycles of life and death. His superiors approved his request and granted him significant advantages, ensuring that each reincarnation placed him in a wealthy family while also securing a stable position as a Ghost Messenger. 0

Their jealousy stemmed from this very fact. 0

There was no way around it; Shui Su had come to terms with this long ago. His excellence was unmatched by other Ghost Messengers, which naturally led to preferential treatment. For instance, in this lifetime, besides his Ghost Messenger abilities, he had also been gifted a bit of skill from above—martial arts. 0

"You only dare to speak to me from a distance; it's clear you know what abilities I've been given," he remarked. "Just now you threatened me about having leverage; you must be referring to Long Mei, who is right outside." 0

The loudest among them clearly felt exposed; he became smug and replied with a sneer, "So what? You’re all trapped in the Gu Family Old Residence now. Unless you can escape, what do you think you can do?" 0

He was filled with pride as he raised his chin and looked at Shui Su with utter contempt. Calmly exhaling his last puff of smoke and extinguishing the cigarette butt on the ground, Shui Su revealed a chilling smile. 0

"I've said it before: the Underworld knows all your plans." Sunlight began to appear beneath Shui Su's feet, illuminating him as if he were glowing in the morning sun. "This place hasn’t been dealt with by the Underworld; it has nothing to do with your inadequate formations. From the very beginning, we wanted to see how far you could go. After all, some of those souls you've managed to capture are stubborn cases for the Underworld—difficult to handle yet impossible to let go. With such a perfect opportunity at hand, why wouldn’t we take advantage?" 0

"The one outside is the real key." He stopped there; revealing too much would diminish his allure. The older men were not fools; they understood his implication quite well. 0

The loudest one slumped back into his chair, his face pale and defeated. The others looked reluctant but dared not speak further. Shui Su smiled at them and continued softly, "Of course, my task was merely an investigation. Now that it’s complete, I’ll take my leave." 0

"You..." The oldest among them suddenly lit up with excitement upon hearing the words. He quickly stepped down from his territory and approached Shui Su, eagerly reaching out to grab his shoulder, only to have it dodged. "Is what you said for real?!" 0

"Of course." Shui Su took a few steps back, a look of disdain on his face. The man, undeterred by his actions, burst into laughter, intermittently exclaiming, "I see now, I see! My dream is coming true! My empire, my team..." 0

Shui Su had no interest in the man's frenzy and chose not to linger. He turned and left the room in a few quick strides. Outside, the sun had fully risen, and the few people waiting were helping Xiao Mei maintain his body temperature by rubbing his hands and face. 0

"It's all right now, let's go home." He walked over and took Xiao Mei from the uncle's arms, noticing that the boy was on the verge of falling asleep. The uncle was worried about him sleeping like this and gently rubbed Xiao Mei's face, suggesting he hold on a little longer until they got to the car. 0

Shui Su signaled for them not to worry and pulled out a pill from his pocket to give to Xiao Mei. Without looking back, he led them toward a corner of the Gu Family Old Residence. 0

"They didn't do anything to you, did they?" The relieved team member didn't immediately follow but reached out to check him over. Once he confirmed there were no injuries, he let out a long sigh of relief. Shui Su smiled genuinely, explaining that since he was invited, there wouldn't be any issues. Their first task was to leave and report back home. 0

This reassured the others enough for them to follow his lead as they exited through the side door of the old residence. Stepping out of the small door led them directly onto a busy main road bustling with morning commuters. Schoolchildren with backpacks ran past them playfully, giving the team members a sense of having survived something dire. 0

Xiao Mei was carried on Shui Su's back. After basking in the sun for a while, his body temperature rose, and he sleepily asked what was happening now. "We're going home!" the uncle replied cheerfully, casually handing him a cup of warm soy milk with a straw. "Have a sip; I had Auntie add some sugar." 0

Revitalized, Xiao Mei sat at a breakfast stall with the cup in hand, happily devouring his food while praising Shui Su for how he handled things this time. However, he still criticized him for not letting him know about the plan in advance, saying he would mentally scold him for two days. Shui Su humbly accepted the criticism and promised everyone that next time there was such an event, he would fully disclose everything beforehand. 0

"I just wonder where everyone else is waiting; our communication devices were left at the hospital. We might have to walk back," Xiao Mei said while munching on a warm bun, contently smacking his lips. After finishing his meal and gazing at the long road stretching into the distance, he recalled this somewhat troublesome issue. 0

Shui Su reassured him that they would wait at the front gate since it wasn't far from there; after eating their fill, they could walk over easily. The response seemed to invigorate Xiao Mei as he confidently headed toward the entrance. The other team members found his actions adorable; even the uncle lamented how his own silly child couldn't compare to how charming Xiao Mei was. 0

"Well then," one of them chimed in, "our Xiao Mei is like a little lucky charm! Ever since he came into our family, everything has been smooth sailing for us Jiang Family; there's no comparison." Their chatter was overheard by Shui Su, who silently agreed but held a slight dissent in his heart. 0

Xiao Mei was never a fortunate one; he was merely a lover who followed his own footsteps into this world. He was the Ghost Messenger, and in his previous life before becoming the Ghost Messenger, he had a wife. Unfortunately, during a time of turmoil in the nation, he died on the battlefield. When the family letter returned, his wife was heartbroken and chose to take her own life. 0

However, his wife could not become a Ghost Messenger. He sought Grace from above, allowing him to remain by her side in spirit. When he wished to be reincarnated, she would also come into this world, sometimes a few years younger than him, but they would always be together. After more than ten cycles of reincarnation, he was forever destined to be male, while his wife was born at random. 0

No one was as fortunate as he was. 0
