I struggled to clean my wounds in the bathroom, leaning on my crutch, and looked quite disheveled as I pushed the door open.
Zhao Li entered with Zhao Ling.
He immediately positioned himself in front of Zhao Ling, as if afraid she might bump into something.
Zhao Ling nestled behind him, appearing delicate and unable to take care of herself.
Zhao Li looked at Zhao Ling with a pained expression.
"Be careful, don’t bump into anything."
I dragged my heavy body along the wall, moving slowly.
Yet, Zhao Li didn’t even glance my way.
It turned out he had never cared about the child.
What he truly cared about was Zhao Ling.
"The patient is currently very weak," the doctor said.
"After the miscarriage, her uterus has not recovered well and she needs to be hospitalized for observation for a while."
Zhao Li sat by the bedside, holding my hand.
"Wife, you’ll be fine. Don’t worry, I’m here for you!"
The doctor sighed.
"However, given her current physical condition, it seems she may not be able to conceive again."
Zhao Li pondered for a moment.
"If she can’t get pregnant, then… let’s go for sterilization!"
The doctor nodded.
"That's not a bad idea, but we need to discuss it with the patient first."
Zhao Li held my hand tightly.
"Dear, if you really can't have children, then we can adopt one."
"I swear I'll love him even more than his biological father."
I lowered my head and said nothing.
Seeing my silence, Zhao Li anxiously grasped my shoulders.
"Dear, please say something!"
I lifted my gaze to meet Zhao Li's eyes.
"Alright, let's go with your suggestion."
Hearing this, Zhao Li finally let out a sigh of relief.
He turned to the doctor and said, "Thank you for your help."
The doctor adjusted his glasses and looked at me.
"If you have no objections, we can prepare for the surgery."
I nodded.
Zhao Li held my hand tightly.
"It's okay, I'll be right outside watching over you. Nothing will happen!"
I closed my eyes, fully aware of the reality.
If I went through with the sterilization surgery, I would never have my own children for the rest of my life.
The anesthesia gradually took effect.
When I woke up again, it was three days later.
I was still bleeding and felt utterly drained of energy.
Zhao Ling was supported by Zhao Li as she walked in.
She leaned delicately against Zhao Li, saying, "Brother, I feel much better today."
I struggled to crawl out of bed and leaned against the wall to make my way to the bathroom.
The floor of the bathroom was stained with blood.
I used an alcohol-soaked cotton ball to clean my wound.
The pain still lingered faintly.
Holding my lower body, I made my way back out.
Zhao Ling was sitting on the bed, sipping porridge.
Zhao Li held a piece of peeled apple to her lips, saying, "Be careful, eat slowly."
Zhao Ling mumbled something indistinctly.
"Brother, I feel much better today. Let's check out tomorrow!"
Zhao Li patted Zhao Ling's head.
"Alright, alright, whatever you say."
Zhao Li then walked over to me, his brow furrowed.
"Wife, what's wrong?"
I glanced at Zhao Ling behind him. "It's nothing."
Only then did Zhao Li relax and shift his gaze back.
"Wife, I ran into Zhao Ling during her check-up this morning, so I brought her along."
"Zhao Ling is pregnant now and can't move around easily, so please don't mind."
I forced a smile.
When I was pregnant, Zhao Li treated me the same way.
He would tie my shoelaces, carry my bags, and fetch things for me.
I never expected that all his thoughtfulness would now be directed towards another woman.
