I was discharged from the hospital on the same day as Zhao Ling.
Zhao Li asked me to hold the child’s urn and not to let it sit with Zhao Ling's child.
She feared it would bring bad luck.
I didn’t say a word or argue.
I took a taxi by myself.
When I got home, the master bedroom had already been taken over by Zhao Ling.
My belongings had been thrown into the storage room on the first floor by my mother-in-law.
She stuffed various items into my arms, saying,
"These are the face masks and perfume that Zhao Ling wanted. Take them up to her."
"And this coat, you need to deliver that too."
My mother-in-law instructed me one item at a time, as if she feared I wouldn’t remember.
I looked at the pile of things, overwhelmed.
"How am I supposed to carry all this upstairs?"
She shot me a glare and replied,
"Figure it out yourself!"
With that, she walked out.
I was left alone in the room.
As I looked around at all the items, I felt a deep sense of irony.
In that moment, I clearly understood.
I had no standing in this family anymore.
Dragging the heavy bags, I made my way up to the third floor.
Before I even reached the bedroom door, I heard noises coming from inside. The child's heart-wrenching cries were mixed with the obscene screams of Zhao Li and Zhao Ling. Zhao Ling yelled and cursed. "Oh! The dead child is so annoying!" Zhao Li tried hard to comfort her, "It's okay, don't worry about him, Mom said to let him cry for a while and he will fall asleep." I couldn't listen any more and just wanted to put my things down and leave. As soon as I reached the first floor, Zhao Li pulled me into the utility room. He kissed me and took off my clothes. "Wife, I miss you so much!" I was pressed against the wall and couldn't move. "Zhao Li! Let me go!" Zhao Li tried even harder. He reached out and ripped off my pants. "Wife, give it to me." I struggled desperately, but Zhao Li's brute force made it impossible for me to break free. A sharp pain came. The wound on my lower body was torn open. Blood flowed down my thigh. Zhao Li looked at the blood and panicked.
But he didn't mean to stop. He held my wound with one hand and supported my waist with the other. "It's okay, it'll be fine in a while." I twisted my body under Zhao Li with disgust and wanted to escape. Zhao Li held my shoulders with his hands. "Don't move! It will be fine soon!" Zhao Li controlled my hands and couldn't move at all. After more than ten minutes, Zhao Li finally stopped. The wound on my lower body was severely torn. Zhao Li got up and put on his clothes. "Wife, wait a moment, I'll get you some medicine." I thought everything was over. But Zhao Li came back holding Zhao Ling's child. "Come on, baby, pee on this auntie." The child cried and peed. Urine flowed down my lower body. Zhao Li smiled. "Mom said that boy's urine can be disinfected." The wound was painful from the urine. I struggled to escape, but Zhao Li held me back.
"Don't move! Just wait until you're done."
I pushed Zhao Li away with all my strength.
"Get lost!"
I struggled to walk out of the storage room.
The dining table was already filled with dishes.
My mother-in-law was sitting at the table, holding the baby.
Zhao Li glanced up at me. "Wife, come eat."
I walked over in a daze.
He had just treated me that way, and now he acted as if nothing had happened!
Zhao Li came to my side and restrained my arm.
He almost forced me to sit down and eat.
"Wife, what are you dazed for? Eat!"
My mother-in-law brought over a bowl of beauty soup.
"Xiao He, this is the beauty soup I made for you. Drink it up."
I took it, and a strange smell hit me.
