As the nurse left, I stole a glance behind her.
That one glance nearly made me cry out.
I saw a tail behind her!
I was so frightened that my whole body trembled, and my face must have looked terrible.
Lu Zhao noticed my distress and asked, "What's wrong with you?"
I pointed at the door and said, "Did you see the tail behind her?"
"What tail?"
Lu Zhao looked at me in confusion. "Are you sure you didn't see it wrong?"
"Impossible!" I was certain I hadn't made a mistake.
"I clearly saw a tail behind her just now."
"What on earth is going on?"
Lu Zhao was startled by my expression and began to realize the seriousness of the situation.
"Are you sure you didn't missee it?"
"Absolutely not!"
To be honest, I wasn't entirely sure myself; everything happening before me was simply too bizarre.
"Don't think too much about it; it must be a prank!"
Lu Zhao had seen this kind of situation before.
"Should I help you with your discharge paperwork?"
Seeing my fear, Lu Zhao tried to reassure me, "Don't worry; it’s probably nothing."
"No way!"
I insisted, "I need to stay and figure out what’s really going on."
A knock sounded at the door.
Lu Zhao and I quickly returned to the bed, pulling the covers over ourselves to pretend we were asleep.
"Come in."
Footsteps approached, heavy and deliberate.
Then, a foul stench filled the air.
It smelled like decaying flesh.
I fought the urge to vomit and quickly covered my mouth.
At that moment, I felt something come closer to me.
I couldn't help but open my eyes, only to find a pair of blood-red eyes staring back at me.
"Ah!"
I screamed and recoiled in fear.
"What is your name?"
The thing spoke.
I focused my gaze and realized it was the same nurse from before.
Her eyes had turned red again.
She was back!
"Why are you here again?"
"I just came by not long ago, didn't I?"
The nurse seemed displeased with our reaction, her tone sharp as she said:
"Time for breakfast!"
She placed the lunchbox in front of us on the table.
Lu Zhao and I exchanged glances, too afraid to speak.
The nurse glared at us with her bloodshot eyes, "What are you staring at? Eat!"
After saying that, she stood by and watched us.
I felt like crying.
Yet I had to force a smile, "Nurse, look at this food. How can we not eat it?"
"What?"
The nurse's eyes widened, her voice rising several octaves, "This is a nutritious meal! How can you not eat it?"
"If you don't eat, you'll die!"
Upon hearing this, I panicked, "No, no, no! We'll eat! We'll eat!"
Only then did the nurse smile in satisfaction.
"That's more like it!"
She crossed her arms, looking as if she was enjoying the show.
Looking at the food on the table, I felt a wave of nausea.
That so-called nutritious meal was actually a bloody chunk of meat.
There were even a few stray hairs on it.
Eating this would surely kill someone!
Lu Zhao couldn't eat either; we just stared at each other wide-eyed.
The nurse seemed annoyed, "Why aren't you eating?"
In a moment of desperation, I tentatively asked, "Sister, do we really have to eat?"
"Of course!"
The nurse was getting a bit impatient. "If you don't eat soon, you'll die!"
Upon hearing this, Lu Zhao gritted his teeth and stuffed a piece of meat into his mouth.
I had no choice but to force myself to eat as well.
The meat was tough and foul-smelling, causing a wave of nausea as I chewed.
I struggled to suppress the urge to vomit while eating.
Finally, I managed to finish.
The nurse smiled. "Very good! You both are being so obedient!"
With that, she left.
Lu Zhao and I both sighed in relief.
It seemed that the message was correct.
We had to adhere to the rules laid out for us.
The rest of the day passed without incident.
Lu Zhao and I mustered our courage to venture outside, only to find that the hospital's main entrance had vanished.
The sky was a dull gray, obscuring everything in sight.
It was clear that we were trapped.
