Just when we were at a loss, the Red-eyed Nurse returned.
Her name was Yun Hui, and she brought dinner with her.
Once again, it was a plate of bloody meat chunks.
Lu Zhao and I exchanged wry smiles; it seemed we were in for another ordeal.
Fortunately, Yun Hui didn’t rush us to eat. Instead, she stood there with her arms crossed, watching us like last time.
Perhaps we had gotten used to it; this time it wasn’t as nauseating.
After we finished eating, Yun Hui left with a satisfied expression.
The following day was quiet, with nothing happening.
It wasn’t until around midnight that I was suddenly awakened by a piercing scream.
The sound seemed to be coming from just outside the door.
By the light of the moon, I saw that Lu Zhao had also woken up.
He waved at me and pointed toward the door.
I immediately understood his meaning and tiptoed over to the door.
Outside, there was a cacophony of voices, as if many people were screaming together.
Peering through the glass on the door, I saw a pair of blood-red eyes staring back at me.
"Ah!"
I screamed and stumbled backward.
I suddenly crashed into the wall.
It hurt so much!
Ignoring the pain, I hurriedly climbed onto the bed and wrapped myself in the blanket.
My whole body trembled violently.
The footsteps outside grew closer, finally stopping right in front of my bed.
I felt a pair of eyes staring at me.
Then, the blanket was yanked away.
I was so frightened that my soul nearly left my body. I covered my eyes and repeatedly begged for mercy, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!"
"An Peng, have you lost your mind?"
Lu Zhao asked in confusion, not understanding what had happened.
I slowly lowered my hands and turned to look.
There stood Lu Zhao, looking at me with a puzzled expression.
I looked back at the glass window, and that pair of eyes had vanished.
"What’s going on?"
Lu Zhao was startled by my appearance and asked with concern.
"Nothing!"
I shook my head, still feeling shaken. "Remember! Between midnight and two o'clock, no matter what you hear, do not step out of the hospital room!"
"Huh?"
Lu Zhao looked at me in confusion. "Why?"
I shot him an annoyed glance. "Are you really that clueless?"
"Can’t you see?"
"There are monsters in this hospital!"
"They will find ways to lure us into opening the door, then torture and devour us."
Lu Zhao nodded thoughtfully. "I see."
"I think I just heard something in the corridor. Did you hear it?"
“No!”
Lu Zhao shook his head. “I’ve been wearing earplugs the whole time.”
I let out a sigh of relief. “Thank goodness you didn’t hear it!”
“Otherwise, we might already be dead!”
Lu Zhao nodded in agreement.
The next day, we both got out of bed with dark circles under our eyes.
What was meant to come would eventually arrive.
We had no idea what would happen next.
But we both knew that no matter what occurred, we could not leave this hospital room.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
“Come in.”
A young girl entered, dressed in a nurse’s uniform, holding a registration form in her hand.
She was very pretty, looking to be around seventeen or eighteen years old.
I felt a surge of hope; perhaps this girl was not a monster after all.
Perhaps she could take us away from this hospital.
With that thought in mind, I couldn't hold back any longer. I jumped out of bed and rushed to her, grabbing her hand and pleading, "Please help us!"
Lu Zhao was startled by my sudden action. "An Peng! Are you crazy?"
I didn't have time to explain; I just held onto the nurse's hand tightly.
The nurse was clearly taken aback, looking at me in confusion.
"Nurse!" I said urgently, "If you can get us out of here, I will reward you handsomely!"
The young girl was so shocked that she couldn't utter a word.
"Will you do it or not?"
I was getting anxious. "Just say something!"
Lu Zhao had also regained her composure and stepped closer to me, asking, "Can you really take us out?"
The girl seemed frozen in fear, unable to respond at all.
