Suddenly, a series of roars echoed from outside the door.
I looked around, only to find myself surrounded by darkness.
The only light came from a distant lamp.
At that moment, I heard whispers drifting from afar: "Another prey has arrived."
Terrified, I quickly shut the door and placed Lu Zhao's heart on the ground.
Just then, more roars erupted outside: "Open the door!"
"Open the door!"
"Open the door!"
I hurriedly covered my ears to block out the sounds from outside.
Then I heard footsteps approaching the door.
All sounds suddenly ceased.
I turned on my phone's flashlight and looked down, noticing a pool of blood extending to the doorway.
Gathering my courage, I opened the door to peek outside and saw a group of monsters feasting on the bodies of Lu Zhao and Yun Hui.
I quickly slammed the door shut and seized the opportunity to dash out while the monsters were preoccupied with their meal.
However, as soon as I stepped outside, I heard a roar behind me.
Fear surged through me, and I sprinted forward with all my might.
In the distance, I spotted a green door.
With all my strength, I charged through the door.
It was then that I noticed the door had lost its luster, now dull and lifeless.
Clearly, it had been used far too many times.
If I guessed correctly, each use of this safe house diminished its effectiveness.
In other words, this safe house would eventually be overrun by monsters.
And I would die here.
At that moment, I heard a roar from outside.
I quickly left.
After closing the door, I noticed that the color had faded even more.
I had no time to waste.
I headed straight for the elevator doors.
Just then, I saw the elevator doors open.
I stepped inside and pressed the button for the basement level.
The elevator began to descend.
Suddenly, I felt a tug on my clothes.
Looking down, I found a little girl, about three or four years old, pulling at my hem.
She looked at me with tear-filled eyes and said, "Big Brother, can you take me out?"
At that moment, I noticed a small tail behind her.
It turned out to be a monster.
I quickly pushed her away and stepped into the elevator.
Just then, the elevator doors closed.
The little girl's figure vanished.
Suddenly, I heard a roar from outside the elevator.
I pressed the button for the basement level.
At that moment, I felt my clothes being tugged again.
I looked down and saw the little girl had appeared inside the elevator.
Her face was twisted in a sinister expression as she said, "Big Brother, since you won't take me out, then stay here and keep me company!"
With that, she opened her bloodied mouth and lunged at me.
Just then, the elevator doors closed completely.
We plummeted down to the basement level.
When the doors opened, I saw a group of monsters waiting for me outside.
In a hurry, I took out Lu Zhao's heart, crushed it, and smeared the juice all over my body.
At that moment, I noticed that the group of monsters had stopped their movements upon seeing me.
Clearly, they were intimidated by the scent emanating from me.
However, I knew this was only temporary.
So, I walked into the Morgue and lay down on the bed in the corner.
Just then, I heard a voice beside me: "Big Brother, what are you doing here?"
I turned my head and was surprised to see Lu Zhao.
But his eyes had turned green.
It was evident that he had been captured by the monsters.
Lu Zhao approached me and said, "Big Brother, you need to leave!"
"This place is dangerous!"
After saying that, he came over and covered me with a white cloth.
At that moment, I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me, and then I fell into a deep sleep.
When I woke up, I found myself back in my original hospital room.
But this time, I was alone.
Looking out the window, I saw that the sky was blue.
Birds were flying across it.
Clearly, this was not the Inverted World.
So I decided to wait for the Checkup time to pass before going out to see what was happening.
At that moment, I noticed the hospital's main entrance reappearing.
I walked up to the door and watched the medical staff coming and going.
My heart was filled with both hope and fear.
Carefully, I took a step forward and instantly felt the distortion of time and space, my body becoming disoriented.
When I opened my eyes again, I found myself back in the normal world.
To my surprise, I was still alive.
I sat on a bench at the bus stop, watching the people next to me curse their boss for scheduling overtime.
I felt a sense of nostalgia mixed with an inexplicable joy.
So I walked home, facing the setting sun.
