The ivy swayed gently in the wind, tracing elegant arcs of tender green. 0

Suddenly, a torrential downpour fell like beads from a broken string, quickly soaking the clothes drying on the balcony. 0

Seeing this, Xu Qing's expression turned hurried as she rushed to gather the clothes. After closing the windows, she returned to the living room. 0

It was then that she noticed Jiang Yiming had returned at some point. Dressed in a black shirt, he sat casually on the sofa with his legs crossed, holding a remote control and watching television. 0

His expensive suit jacket was carelessly tossed over the armrest, giving off a slightly disheveled appearance. 0

“Have you eaten yet? I can heat up some food for you,” Xu Qing asked softly, concern flickering in her eyes. 0

The wall clock showed it was already eleven o'clock at night. Compared to Jiang Yiming's usual late nights, his return tonight was relatively early. 0

“Is that a serious question? At this hour, if I hadn't eaten, I'd be dead from hunger,” Jiang Yiming replied impatiently, running his fingers through his hair with irritation. 0

“Isn't it because I’m afraid you’d do the same as a few days ago, waking me up in the middle of the night to cook for you? After I finish cooking, you just fall asleep, and the next day you yell at me for taking too long and neglecting your stomach.” 0

Of course, these words were only silently raging in Xu Qing's mind; she didn’t dare to voice them. 0

Jiang Yiming was handsome and well-regarded for his capabilities at work. However, he had a sharp tongue and a bad temper, and he showed no mercy when it came to bullying his own wife. 0

The moment Xu Qing dared to retort, it was like lighting the fuse of a powder keg with Jiang Yiming—an explosion was imminent. 0

After three years of marriage, from the initial bickering to now, Xu Qing had learned her lesson. She silently turned away to prepare a plate of fruit for him, her eyes flashing with helplessness. 0

Suddenly, a loud crash echoed from the living room as something fell to the floor. 0

Xu Qing turned her gaze towards the light of the television screen, where Jiang Yiming appeared, his expression serious, his full lips pressed tightly into a thin line. 0

Not far away lay the remote control, now broken into two pieces. 0

The television had been muted. Xu Qing finished watching the entire entertainment news segment before she approached and turned off the TV, a knowing smile on her face as she said, “You’re the head of an entertainment company; you must know that gossip reporters are experts at twisting stories. That handsome guy is a photographer for a magazine, his surname is Zhang. He’s an upright man who loves his children and cherishes his wife.” 0

A flicker of surprise crossed Jiang Yiming's eyes, not due to Xu Qing's righteous words, but because of the faint mist in her eyes. 0

In Jiang Yiming's mind, Xu Qing had always been strong-willed. 0

The Xu family was wealthy and powerful, giving her a sense of pride. Later, when she ventured into the entertainment industry, she did so on her own merits, establishing herself without relying on anyone else—confident and tenacious. 0

He had never seen her speak with such firmness while looking so close to tears. 0

Reflecting on how she had gone from someone who wouldn’t lift a finger to now being skilled at cooking and doing laundry for him, Jiang Yiming felt he had been too harsh earlier. 0

He wanted to apologize, but the words stuck in his throat; remaining silent felt awkward as well. 0

Finally, Jiang Yiming ruffled his hair and pointed towards the kitchen with a fierce expression. “Hurry up and heat up the food.” 0

Last night’s rain had made even the summer afternoon feel unusually cool. 0

Xu Qing sat on a small stool, intently reading her script. 0

She was currently filming a period drama that she loved dearly; she was very satisfied with both the script and her role. 0

The movie told a poignant love story between a kind-hearted heroine and a charming hero. She played the second female lead, the heroine’s sister, who also harbored feelings for the hero but was never truly acknowledged by him. Thus, she resorted to ruthless means to compete with her sister for his affection. 0

“Meng Fan, do you think the aunties at the market will still sell vegetables to me after I finish this play?” Xu Qing asked anxiously, glancing up at the sky at a forty-five-degree angle while flipping through the lines for a scene she was set to shoot tomorrow. 0

Sitting next to her was the handsome young man basking in sunlight, Meng Fan, the director of this play, known for his creative genius and also Xu Qing's childhood friend. 0

“Tsk tsk, how cruel! You actually have to use sweet words to lure the fairy sister to the edge of the cliff, push her down, and then smugly laugh a few times, declaring that no one will compete with me anymore. From now on, ×× is mine,” he teased. 0

“Don’t worry, I’ll throw you a few cabbages,” Meng Fan said generously, patting his chest with a playful smile. 0

Xu Qing shot him a glare and lowered her head to focus seriously on her script. 0

A few strands of hair fell across her long neck, the curve of her profile soft and beautiful. Meng Fan felt his heart skip a beat as he watched her. “Qingqing, how are things with Jiang Yiming?” 0

Few knew about Xu Qing's marriage plans with Jiang Yiming, and even fewer knew the truth. Meng Fan was one of the few who did. 0

“It’s still the same. He told me before marriage that he doesn’t love me but won’t divorce me either, nor will he give up on Lu Man,” Xu Qing replied without looking up, a hint of melancholy in her eyes. 0

If it weren’t for Lu Man’s humble background, Jiang Yiming wouldn’t have been willing to marry her, using her as a shield against opposition from his family. 0

“Qingqing, why do you have to do this?” 0

“It’s too unfair if I’m the only one giving love unilaterally. So no matter what, I have to drag him down with me,” Xu Qing said calmly, yet her words carried an unwavering determination that left no room for advice. 0
