Zhao Qian rallied the team in the channel for one last pre-battle briefing. "Everyone, get your spirits up! 'Mirage City' is a new Dungeon, and there are no guides. We have to explore it ourselves. Follow my lead: healers, keep an eye on the tank's health; DPS, watch your positioning to avoid skills; Wanxing, place your traps at the right moment to control the field when it counts."
"Understood," I replied.
As we entered the Dungeon, the scenery shifted dramatically. Gone was the splendor of Liuli City, replaced by a beach shrouded in milky white mist. In the distance, the outlines of pavilions and towers could be seen, dreamlike yet eerie. The air was thick with dampness and a faint briny scent, accompanied by the barely audible sound of waves and… a whisper that unsettled the mind.
"This environment… is a bit creepy," Su Qi murmured softly. She played a lively and adorable mage named "Sweet and Sour Ribs."
We cautiously advanced. The first mini-boss was a group of bewitched sirens. Their attacks weren't high, but they could cast area charm spells. After a chaotic bout, we managed to get through without any major issues.
The real challenge awaited us in the second area, a maze of illusions created by the Shen Demon. The maze was filled with traps and patrolling phantom guards; being spotted would summon hordes of monsters. To make matters worse, the layout of the maze constantly shifted.
"Everyone stay close to me, don’t get separated!" Zhao Qian's voice was tinged with tension.
We tried several times but were wiped out each time due to triggering traps or being discovered by guards. After a few attempts, team morale began to dip.
"President, this isn't working," complained our main tank, a burly man playing a shield warrior named "Iron-Blooded Heart." "This maze is infuriating; I can't gauge the guards' line of sight at all, and the traps are impossible to avoid."
Zhao Qian furrowed his brow, momentarily at a loss for solutions.
I carefully observed the maze's environment and the patrol routes of the phantom guards while recalling our previous failures. Suddenly, an idea struck me.
"President," I said in the team channel, "I have an idea. The guards seem sensitive to sound and specific light frequencies. I can use 'Echo Locator' to detect their approximate positions and then use 'Yin Guang Die' to mark out a safe route. As for the traps… I can trigger some in advance using 'Thousand Mechanism Rope', or create chaos at critical junctions with 'Misty Butterfly Formation' to cover our passage."
'Echo Locator', 'Yin Guang Die', 'Thousand Mechanism Rope…' These were all gadgets I had been researching from the Mo Family. While they weren't powerful in combat, they could yield unexpected results in specific situations.
Zhao Qian's eyes lit up. "Wanxing, do you have confidence?"
"I can give it a try," I replied, "but everyone needs to cooperate completely and strictly follow my marked route. Move lightly."
"Alright! We'll do it your way, Wanxing!" Zhao Qian decided immediately. "Everyone pay attention; from now on, follow 'Xing Chen Yue Luo' for instructions!"
Taking a deep breath, I began my operation. First, I released a small mechanical bat—'Echo Locator'. It emitted silent sound waves that spread through the maze, quickly sketching out a simple map on my interface that indicated the positions and movements of nearby phantom guards.
Next, with a flick of my fingers, several softly glowing blue 'Yin Guang Die' flew silently out and settled on the ground of the maze's passageway, forming a winding safe path for us to follow.
