In his team, I gradually found my place. My healing techniques, while not top-notch, were steady; my mechanics always proved effective at critical moments, compensating for the team's shortcomings. We were becoming increasingly in sync.
“Wanxing, you’ve been getting pretty close to the ‘Yi Jian Han’ master lately,” Zhao Qian joked after one of our guild events. “It seems like you two have a lot in common.”
“We’re just… discussing some technical issues,” I explained, my cheeks betraying me with a slight flush.
Su Qi, standing nearby, raised her eyebrows and teased, “Oh~ technical issues? I get it, I get it!”
I shot her a glare.
Honestly, I couldn’t quite articulate what I felt about “Yi Jian Han.” Admiration? Curiosity? Gratitude? It seemed to encompass all of that and more. I knew there was a significant gap between us, both in the game and in reality (even though I had no idea who he was in real life). He was a god standing on a cloud, while I was just an ordinary player among the masses. We were like two parallel lines that briefly intersected because of “Tales of the Spirit Realm,” but ultimately would head in different directions.
So, I kept this subtle feeling hidden in my heart, viewing him merely as a respected and admirable gaming partner.
Until that day when he suddenly asked me, “Are you free this weekend?”
I paused for a moment. “Yeah, why?”
He replied, “The final boss in ‘Mirage City,’ Shen Demon, has a hidden mechanism related to the Mo Family Mechanism Technique. I want to try a new strategy and need someone proficient in mechanics from the Mo Family to assist.”
“A new strategy?” My interest piqued immediately. “The hidden mechanism of Shen Demon? What is it?”
“It’s just a guess for now,” he said. “It needs to be verified on-site. Are you interested in joining me?”
Researching new dungeon strategies with the “Yi Jian Han” master, especially one related to my expertise? This was an irresistible temptation for me.
“Yes!” I replied without hesitation. “When?”
“Saturday at two o’clock, let’s meet at the dungeon entrance.”
“Okay!”
After agreeing, I suddenly realized something—was this considered… a personal invitation from the master?
Even though it was for the dungeon, this would be our first time acting alone together without the team.
My heart inexplicably raced a few beats faster.
On Saturday afternoon, I arrived at the entrance of the “Mirage City” dungeon ten minutes early.
To my surprise, “Yi Jian Han” had arrived even earlier than me. He still wore his signature deep blue outfit, standing quietly at the edge of the mist as if he had been waiting for quite some time.
“Master, you’re here so early,” I said as I approached him to greet him.
"Getting used to being ahead of time," he replied casually before diving straight into the topic. "Regarding the hidden mechanism of Shen Demon, my hypothesis is that at specific stages, it releases a highly disruptive mental shock that can interrupt all casting and guiding skills, but it seems to have a weaker effect on physical mechanisms. If we can leverage this, we might find a way to counter it."
"Using Mechanics to combat mental shock?" I pondered. "Theoretically, it's feasible. The mental shock from Shen Demon is essentially a high-frequency energy wave. If we can create a mechanism that absorbs or interferes with these fluctuations, it might work."
"Yes," he nodded. "I've studied the Mo Family skills; the Dingxin Talisman and Zhenhun Tower might be worth trying. However, we will need to adjust the runes and energy frequencies based on the actual situation."
