The results of the competition were beyond doubt. Our "AR Campus" project won the grand prize with its innovation, technical feasibility, and outstanding live performance. Meanwhile, the team led by Qiao Weiwei was disqualified for attempted plagiarism and malicious sabotage, and Qiao Weiwei herself received serious disciplinary action from the school, becoming notorious on campus.
With everything settled, the three of us in the team breathed a sigh of relief. Li Wei, our senior, happily suggested a celebratory dinner that evening, and I readily agreed. Shen Yizhou glanced at me with a smile and nodded in agreement.
The atmosphere at the celebration dinner was lively. Li Wei raised her glass and remarked, "This competition has been quite a rollercoaster; thankfully, we made it through! Lin Xi, Shen Yizhou, here’s to you both! One is the creative core, and the other is a tech genius—well-deserved!"
I smiled shyly and clinked glasses with Shen Yizhou. Our cups contained juice because he had mentioned that girls should drink less alcohol at night.
During the meal, Li Wei received a phone call, seemingly from her boyfriend urging her to leave early. Soon, it was just Shen Yizhou and me left in the restaurant.
With no one else around, the atmosphere became a bit awkward. I lowered my head and nibbled on dessert, unable to look at Shen Yizhou across from me as my cheeks began to flush again.
"Still thinking about what happened on defense day?" he suddenly asked.
I looked up to meet his gentle gaze. "A little... but mostly I'm grateful. Thank you so much for that day." If it weren't for him presenting evidence in time, the consequences would have been dire.
"You silly," he chuckled, reaching out to pinch my cheek in a natural and affectionate manner. "Protecting you is what I should do."
A warmth spread through my heart, like countless little stars twinkling inside me.
"And," he paused for a moment, his tone turning serious, "don't call me senior anymore."
"Ah?" I was taken aback for a moment. "Then... what should I call you?"
He looked at me with a smile in his eyes. "Call me by my name. Or... you can call me whatever you like."
I thought for a moment and tentatively whispered, "Yizhou?"
"Yeah." He responded with a deeper smile. "That sounds nice."
My face turned even redder, like a ripe tomato.
After dinner, we walked side by side on our way back to school. The late summer night was cool and refreshing, dispelling the heat of the day. The streetlights cast long shadows of us that occasionally overlapped.
"Lin Xi," Shen Yizhou suddenly stopped walking and pulled out a small box from his pocket, handing it to me. "This is for you, to celebrate our award."
Curious, I took it and opened it to find a silver necklace lying quietly inside; the pendant was a tiny, crystal-clear star. The design was simple yet exquisite.
"It's beautiful!" I exclaimed in surprise as I picked up the necklace. "A star?"
"Yes," he nodded, looking at me with gentle eyes. "That night you said you liked stars. And... Lin Xi, the stream reflects the stars perfectly."
My heart was instantly enveloped in an overwhelming sweetness. It turned out that he remembered everything I had casually mentioned. The stream reflecting the stars... was he referring to me?
"Can I... help you put it on?" he asked in a low voice.
I nodded, feeling a bit shy as I turned around and tucked my hair behind my ear.
The cool chain glided gently over my neck, and his warm fingertips brushed against my skin, sending a slight shiver through me. He was so close that I could even smell his fresh and pleasant scent.
"All done," he said as he fastened the necklace, gently turning me around to look at the sparkling star pendant on my chest. He smiled with satisfaction. "It suits you perfectly."
I raised my hand to touch the little star, feeling it pulse in time with my racing heartbeat.
"Yizhou," I mustered the courage to look up at him, "so... does this mean we're together now?"
