On our ten-year wedding anniversary, my assistant sent me a video of my wife and her first love engaged in a heated encounter in a car. The paparazzi demanded five hundred thousand for the footage.
I instructed my assistant to handle the situation discreetly, but my wife erupted in anger over the phone, threatening to divorce me.
When she returned home, I was eating spicy chicken for the first time in front of her. She slammed my chopsticks down and accused me of being sarcastic.
I calmly informed her that I had sent the bill for the Benz I bought for her first love—five million.
Furious and embarrassed, she overturned the "Wedding Anniversary Gift" she had prepared for me, revealing a green hat that rolled out.
"I consulted a master about this," she said defiantly. "Wearing a green hat will benefit my career development. We are civilized people; let’s not stigmatize the color green, okay?"
If a heart that has been cold for ten years cannot be warmed, then it should be discarded.
I picked up the wedding ring, spun it on my fingertip, and smirked coldly. "This thing feels heavy even when worn."
With that, I tossed the ring into the trash can.
The crisp sound of it hitting the bottom felt like a heavy blow to Shen Nanxin's heart.
She stared at me with wide eyes, unable to believe what she was witnessing.
"Five million for the Benz, over two million for the property, and the scattered transfers add up to quite a shocking amount, don't they?" I lit a cigarette, taking a deep drag. The white smoke blurred my expression, concealing the pain I felt at that moment.
"You claim to love me, yet behind my back, you're using my money to support your first love, Shen Nanxin. You truly disgust me."
Shen Nanxin's face turned pale, her lips trembled, but she couldn't utter a word.
She instinctively took a step back and knocked over the chair behind her.
"Let's get a divorce." I uttered those two words with a cold tone, leaving no room for negotiation.
"I'll make sure you leave with nothing."
"Fu Ci Ye, how dare you!" Shen Nanxin shouted, her initial fear gradually replaced by anger. "If you dare to divorce me, I'll expose all your dirty secrets and ruin you!"
I laughed, a hint of mockery in my voice. "Dirty secrets? Which ones are you referring to? Tax evasion? Or commercial bribery?"
I pulled a document from the drawer and tossed it in front of her. "This is evidence of your asset transfers over the years; every transaction is crystal clear. Shen Nanxin, when it comes to your little tricks, I'm far ahead."
Her trembling hand picked up the document, scanning it rapidly. Her complexion shifted from white to green and then to purple.
She realized I was well-prepared.
All along, she thought she was in control, but little did she know she was merely a clown in this game.
"Jun Ci..." Shen Nanxin's voice softened, tinged with a hint of tears. "I was wrong; I truly acted out of impulse. I won't dare again; please don't divorce me..."
She reached out to grab the hem of my shirt, but I took a step back, avoiding her touch.
She stumbled slightly and fell to the ground, tears rolling down her cheeks like pearls strung on a broken thread.
“It’s been ten years. We’ve been married for ten years. Can you really be this heartless?”
Ten years? I closed my eyes, memories flashing through my mind from the past decade.
On our wedding anniversary, she was passionately kissing He Chengqing in the car; on Valentine’s Day, she used the necklace I gave her to please He Chengqing; on my birthday, she was busy celebrating with He Chengqing instead...
In these ten years, my efforts had only brought me endless betrayal and deceit.
I opened my eyes, a coldness settling in my gaze.
“Heartless? Compared to what you’ve done to me, what I’ve done is nothing.”
I opened the study door and said to Lin Zhu, who was standing outside, “Contact a lawyer and draft the divorce agreement as soon as possible. Also, inform the in-laws and have them come over.”
Lin Zhu nodded and turned to leave.
Shen Nanxin sat on the floor, crying out in despair.
I looked at her, feeling not a single ripple of emotion within me.
This marriage should have ended long ago.
Lin Zhu quickly brought Shen Nanxin's parents to my study.
The two of them clearly already knew what had happened, their expressions grave.
"Jun Ci, Nan Yi..." Mother-in-law began, her tone tinged with guilt.
I interrupted her, "Auntie, I know you have always liked me, and I respect you both. But I cannot forgive this matter."
My father-in-law sighed and patted my shoulder. "Jun Ci, we understand how you feel. We have spoiled this child since she was young, allowing her to develop a willful temperament. What happened this time was wrong on her part, and we apologize to you on her behalf."
"Dad, Mom, please don't blame Jun Ci. It was my fault; I was blinded..." Shen Nanxin cried out.
Mother-in-law walked over to her and helped her up. "Nan Yi, you foolish girl! Jun Ci has been so good to you; why would you do this?"
Shen Nanxin clung to her mother, weeping, yet she never looked at me again. I watched the three of them together, feeling a mix of emotions in my heart.
I said to my in-laws, "I will draft the divorce agreement as soon as possible and will notify you when it's ready."
With that, I turned and left the study, leaving the three of them in the room.
I walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and looked out at the bustling city nightscape, taking a deep breath.
