The moment I shook off Lu Ze and Lin Weiwei, I felt as if the massive stone that had weighed on my heart for years had finally been lifted, allowing me to breathe much more easily. The humility and self-doubt that had been instilled in me by them in my last life vanished in an instant. 0

Returning to the dormitory, my deskmate Zhang Qi immediately rushed over, her face brimming with excitement that screamed "onlooker": "Gu Yan! You were so cool just now! 'Do you think you deserve it?' That was absolutely killer! Lu Ze's face turned green like a palette!" 0

I smiled and took off my canvas shoes, slipping into comfortable slippers. "It’s nothing, I just figured things out." 0

"That's good! That kind of scumbag, the sooner you break free, the better!" Zhang Qi said indignantly. "And that Lin Weiwei, always pretending to be weak. I see her as quite the schemer! Stay far away from them in the future!" 0

"Mm." I nodded, feeling grateful. Zhang Qi was one of the few friends from my last life who had always supported me and stood up for me. In this life, I would never let her be dragged into my troubles again. 0

In the following days, there was much discussion around campus about my "heroic act." Some called me heartless, others brave, but most were simply enjoying the drama between Lu Ze and Lin Weiwei. 0

As expected, Lu Ze "reluctantly" chose Lin Weiwei just like in my last life. He probably thought that my outburst was a ploy to grab his attention and make him want to "win me back." Soon enough, he and Lin Weiwei were flaunting their relationship in front of me, deliberately showing off their affection to provoke me. 0

Lin Weiwei was particularly pleased with herself, linking arms with Lu Ze and casting triumphant glances at me filled with both superiority and a condescending pity. 0

Unfortunately for them, they had miscalculated. 0

I was far too busy to pay attention to these two clowns. 0

What was I doing? I was preparing for the future. 0

The first step: saving my family's company. 0

In my last life, my family's business collapsed due to a disastrous investment project that caused our cash flow to break down. Ultimately, we were swallowed up by the the Lu Family and the Lin family working together. My father was devastated by the blow and fell ill. That project had been orchestrated by Lu Ze's father and guaranteed by Lin Weiwei's uncle. I clearly remembered that it had launched at the end of this semester. 0

I immediately called my father, subtly reminding him that the market was volatile lately and that he should be cautious with investments—especially those that seemed lucrative but carried hidden risks. He should conduct thorough background checks and avoid them if possible. 0

My father seemed surprised but listened patiently. He had always cared for me, even though he thought a college student like me couldn't understand much about business matters. Nevertheless, he promised he would be careful. 0

I knew this wasn't enough; merely warning him wouldn't suffice. I needed stronger evidence to prevent that disaster. 0

Using my spare time, I began spending hours in the library and computer lab, frantically searching for all information regarding that investment project. In my last life, I only learned bits and pieces of the inside story after it happened; now armed with vague memories and the advantage of rebirth, I aimed to uncover the entire scheme. 0

At the same time, I didn't neglect my studies. In my last life, due to Lu Ze and Lin Weiwei's issues, I had fallen into a deep depression which caused my grades to plummet and made me miss many opportunities. In this life, I intended to reclaim everything I'd lost. 0

I started paying close attention in class, organizing notes diligently, and actively participating in various academic competitions and club activities. With a second chance at life, many skills and knowledge were still fresh in my mind; learning became much easier. Before long, my grades began to steadily improve as I climbed back to the top of my class. 0

Of course, Lu Ze and Lin Weiwei did not take this lying down. 0

Seeing that I remained unaffected while thriving instead only fueled their discontent. 0

Soon enough, rumors about me began circulating around school. 0

"I heard Gu Yan is pretending not to care because she was dumped; she’s just too shaken up." 0

"Yes, she's been studying so hard lately, probably just to catch Lu Ze's attention, right?" 0
"I also heard that she has approached Lu Ze several times in private, crying and begging to get back together!" 0
These words reached my ears, and I could only smile in response. 0
Zhang Qi was furious and wanted to confront them, but I stopped her. "Their mouths are on their own faces; let them say what they want. We just need to focus on our own business." 0
The truth will reveal itself in time. 0
But that didn't mean I would let them tarnish my reputation. 0
During a group discussion for a professional course, Lin Weiwei deliberately made sarcastic remarks: "Gu Yan has been working so hard lately, unlike some people who are preoccupied with underhanded schemes, stealing others' happiness without even realizing it." 0
The classmates in our group exchanged glances, the atmosphere awkward. 0
I set down my pen, looked up at her, and smiled slightly. "Lin Weiwei, instead of throwing veiled insults here, why not put more effort into your paper? After all, things obtained through others are ultimately unreliable. Don't you agree?" 0
My gaze pointedly swept over her and then towards Lu Ze, who was chatting nearby but occasionally glancing our way. 0
Lin Weiwei's face instantly turned red; she stammered for a moment but couldn't find her words. 0
Lu Ze seemed to sense the tension and walked over with a frown. "Gu Yan, don't be so harsh with your words." 0
"Harsh?" I raised an eyebrow. "I'm just speaking the truth. Isn't your relationship built on someone's 'indecision' and another's 'helplessness'? Everyone knows how stable such a relationship can be." 0
The surrounding classmates chuckled softly. 0
Lu Ze's expression darkened further as he grabbed Lin Weiwei's hand and said in a low voice, "Let's go!" 0
Watching their embarrassed retreat, I couldn't help but smirk internally. This was just the beginning. 0
It seemed Lu Ze's recent state had indeed declined. He had started to lose focus in class and had been called out by the professor several times. I heard that a club project he was responsible for was also progressing poorly. Perhaps he was too immersed in his "gentle haven" to care about serious matters anymore. 0
Good. At this rate, he would soon be facing his first "surprise." 0
