Hearing those words, Lin Mo's face instantly turned pale, and she trembled uncontrollably. She weakly nodded in agreement to Madam Xiao's request, naively thinking it was merely about accompanying drinks. Her eyes dimmed, resembling a resigned beast caught in a trap.
"I understand, Madam," she said softly, her voice so weak it was almost inaudible. She clenched her fingers tightly, her nails digging deep into her palms, constantly reassuring herself that this was better than being in prison. Yet, this self-comfort felt like a dull knife, slicing through her heart with each passing moment.
Lin Mo looked at Madam Xiao's arrogant demeanor and couldn't help but recall the disaster from six months ago. The Lin's EO Company had been set up and fell into ruin overnight. Her parents, unable to bear the blow, both jumped from the building. As a defenseless young woman, she could only seek refuge with the Xiao family, who had grown up with her. But instead of remembering her father's past kindness to them, they treated her like a servant!
Lin Mo bit her lip, a trace of sorrow flashing in her eyes. But now she was penniless, a pariah everyone wanted to shun; as an orphan, where could she possibly go?
The next evening, Lin Mo arrived at the Golden Pavilion Club with a heavy heart, only to find that things were far more complicated than she had imagined. The neon lights flickered with glaring brightness, causing her to involuntarily shrink back.
"New here?" A heavily made-up middle-aged woman scrutinized her from head to toe with a hint of disdain in her gaze. "Follow me."
The woman led her through the dimly lit corridor and pushed open the door to the dressing room, coldly instructing, "Go take a shower and change into something else." She tossed Lin Mo a beautifully packaged box.
"Hurry up, don’t dawdle," the club's Sister urged impatiently as she pushed open the bathroom door.
With trembling hands, Lin Mo removed her clothes; the warm water cascaded over her body, yet she felt no warmth at all. Amidst the misty steam, tears streamed down silently, mingling with the water from the showerhead.
"Time's up!" Sister shouted from outside. "Come out quickly!"
As she wrapped herself in a towel and stepped outside, several Sisters were already waiting for her. They skillfully picked up various bottles and jars, applying fragrant ointments to her skin. The pungent scent hit her like a wave, so strong that it nearly suffocated her, causing her stomach to churn.
"Don't move!" one of the Sisters scolded sharply. "This is the most expensive imported perfume!"
Lin Mo could only endure the discomfort, allowing them to smear the substances on her body. The cool ointments slithered across her skin like venomous snakes, making her shiver involuntarily.
"All done." The leading Sister nodded in satisfaction. "Now you finally look the part."
Lin Mo furrowed her brows, puzzled. It was just a simple task of accompanying guests for drinks; why all this fuss? A sense of foreboding crept into her mind, but before she could dwell on it further, she was startled by the sight before her.
The mirror in the dressing room reflected a stranger—a heavily made-up version of herself, far removed from her usual innocent appearance. Just as she was lost in thought, a provocatively dressed woman sauntered over, swaying her hips and holding a glass filled with an oddly pink drink.
"Here, little sister, have a sip to calm your nerves," the woman said with raised eyebrows and a knowing smile. "You look like it's your first time here. Don't be nervous; just relax."
