I walked up behind Shen Zhi Zhou and paused. He seemed unaware, still gazing out the window.
"President Shen," I said softly.
His body stiffened slightly as he slowly turned around. Upon seeing me, a flicker of surprise crossed his eyes, but he quickly regained his usual calm demeanor, though the fingers gripping his wine glass seemed to tighten a bit.
"Is there something you need?" His voice was low and hoarse.
I looked at him, observing his feigned composure and the fleeting tension in his eyes, and suddenly felt that he wasn't so hard to approach after all.
"Sister Su Man had a chat with me," I said directly.
His gaze sharpened instantly, and a hint of panic flashed across his face, like a child whose secret had been exposed. "What... did she say to you?"
"She said," I deliberately slowed my speech, looking into his eyes, "that you're a bit of a difficult person."
The tips of his ears turned visibly red.
"She also mentioned," I continued, "that someone gets jealous when hearing about others going on blind dates."
His cheeks began to flush as well; his gaze wandered, avoiding mine as he tried to sound tough. "Nonsense..."
"She added," I stepped closer, looking up at him with softened tones, "that the iceberg really needs someone to take the initiative to melt it."
We were close enough that I could clearly see his long eyelashes, feel his slightly hurried breath, and smell the cold scent mixed with alcohol emanating from him.
He completely froze, staring at my face just inches away from his. His Adam's apple moved involuntarily up and down, his eyes filled with shock, confusion, and... a hint of incredulous joy?
"So," I looked at him, summoning the greatest courage of my life, speaking each word deliberately, "Shen Zhi Zhou, would you like to... try being melted by me?"
Time seemed to freeze at that moment.
The noise of the banquet hall faded away; it felt like the entire world consisted only of the two of us.
He stared at me blankly, and in those frost-covered eyes of his, it was as if beneath the shattered ice lay a warm current bubbling forth, shimmering with dazzling light.
After what felt like an eternity, he finally found his voice again, raspy and unsteady: "Lin Xiaoran, you..."
"Hmm?" I tilted my head to look at him, waiting for his response.
He took a deep breath as if making a momentous decision and suddenly reached out to pull me tightly into his embrace!
His hold was firm and slightly trembling, as if he were using all his strength to meld me into him. My cheek pressed against his warm chest as I listened to the thunderous rhythm of his heartbeat—thump after thump—clear and powerful.
"You idiot..." he murmured in my ear, his voice thick with frustration and... relief at having found something lost again. "Why didn't you tell me sooner..."
"Likewise," I murmured, buried in his embrace. "You were the one who flirted with me first!"
He chuckled softly, the vibrations from his chest sending a tingling sensation through me. "It's my fault." He loosened his grip slightly, cradling my face in his hands as he leaned down to meet my gaze. His eyes were filled with an unprecedented tenderness and affection. "It all started with that cup of coffee, perhaps... even earlier."
My cheeks flushed even more.
"So, was it intentional when you lent me your power bank that night?" I asked, tilting my face up to him.
His eyes flickered for a moment, and his ears turned red again as he awkwardly admitted, "Um... yes."
"And what about the Bento?"
"It was... delicious." This time, he admitted it quite quickly.
I couldn't help but laugh. This contradictory guy!
"Lin Xiaoran," he said, looking at me with utmost seriousness, "I like you. A lot."
This time, his confession was direct and sincere, without a hint of hesitation or concealment.
My heart felt as if it were filled with honey, sweet enough to overflow.
"Okay," I nodded vigorously, my eyes slightly misty but my lips curving into a bright smile. "I understand."
He noticed the glimmer in my eyes and leaned down to gently kiss away the moisture at the corner of my eye, his touch so tender it felt surreal. Then, his lips slowly descended to cover mine.
It was a kiss filled with both hesitation and profound reverence. The coldness of the air melted away under the warmth of our emotions, leaving only a heart-pounding tenderness and thrill.
Outside, the night was deepening while the banquet hall remained lively. Yet in that moment, it felt as though we had created a small world that belonged solely to us.
It turned out that the awkward beginnings, the cold hesitations, the clumsy closeness, and the bittersweet misunderstandings... all of it led to this perfect moment of heart-fluttering connection.
By chance, I collided with you, Shen Zhi Zhou.
By chance, it was you, Lin Xiaoran.
And just like this, everything felt right.
