I was dressed in a black cycling suit, removing my helmet to reveal a plain yet striking face as I stepped inside. The entire venue fell silent, all eyes focused on me.
Aunt Liu and Bai Lian turned pale. Gu Mingxuan's pupils dilated in shock as he pointed at me, “Jiang Yao! What… what are you doing here? Weren't you sick?”
“Yeah,” I replied, walking down to the stage, tilting my head to look at them with a smirk playing at the corners of my mouth. “I was sick, but I couldn't bear to miss some people's spectacular performance, so I struggled to get up and join the fun.”
Bai Lian forced a calm demeanor, “Jiang Yao, what nonsense are you talking about? Come up here and stop messing around.”
“Messing around?” I raised an eyebrow. “Who’s messing around?”
I raised my hand and snapped my fingers.
With a loud crack, the large screen in the banquet hall suddenly lit up.
What appeared was not our warm group photo, but rather—
A high-definition surveillance video.
In the footage, Gu Mingxuan and Bai Lian were caught in a passionate embrace in a corner of the hotel corridor, their actions intense and words explicit.
“Brother Xuan, you’re getting engaged to Jiang Yao tomorrow. What about me?” Bai Lian gasped.
“Don’t worry, baby. I only love you. Getting engaged to her is just to stabilize the Jiang family and secure her shares. Once I have control over the Jiang family, the first thing I’ll do is kick her out and marry you!” Gu Mingxuan's sweet words echoed throughout the hall.
“Really? But I’m still so scared…”
“Scared of what? That idiot thinks we’re playing her for real! Once she’s outlived her usefulness, she’ll be tossed aside like garbage!”
The video wasn’t long, but it packed a powerful punch.
Gasps filled the room! The reporters' flashbulbs went off like crazy.
Gu Mingxuan and Bai Lian’s faces shifted from red to white, then from white to green—an astonishing display of emotions.
Aunt Liu nearly fainted on the spot.
My father, Jiang Hong, was shaking with rage as he pointed at the two people on stage. “You… you shameless fools!”
I walked up to the microphone, picked it up, and spoke clearly so that my voice echoed throughout the venue. “Ladies and gentlemen, I apologize for the spectacle you’ve just witnessed.”
“The engagement ceremony is canceled.”
“As for this pair of scoundrels,” I gestured toward the two frozen figures on stage, “I wish you both a locked fate, and I’ll throw away the key into the Pacific Ocean.”
With that, I dropped the microphone and turned away with flair, leaving behind a crowd filled with shock, disdain, and sympathy.
As I reached the door, I turned back to face Gu Mingxuan, whose face was ashen, and Bai Lian, who was in tears. I mouthed silently to them: “Surprise!”
Then I strode out of that disastrous scene.
The aftermath of the engagement banquet turned out to be even more “exciting” than I had imagined. The Gu family and Bai Lian became the laughingstock of the entire circle. Gu Mingxuan’s project had completely fallen through, and he was said to be drowning in debt. Bai Lian was labeled a “homewrecker” and a “green tea bitch,” attracting pointed fingers wherever she went.
Satisfying? No, this was just the beginning.
At home, it was naturally a stormy scene.
My father, Jiang Hong, exploded in fury, berating Gu Mingxuan and Bai Lian mercilessly. Aunt Liu sobbed beside him, pleading for Bai Lian, claiming she was just confused and that it was all Gu Mingxuan’s fault.
I sat on the sofa, watching coldly.
Once they had exhausted their shouting, I slowly spoke up. “Dad, I want to annul my engagement with Gu Mingxuan.”
“That’s only natural!” Jiang Hong replied, still seething.
“And also,” I looked at Aunt Liu and Bai Lian, “they should move out of our house now, right?”
Aunt Liu shot her head up in disbelief. “Jiang Yao, what do you mean? Your father and I are legally married!”
Bai Lian cried out as well. “Sister, I know I was wrong. Please forgive me! I can’t live without this family…”
