"Gu Jing Shen, you really are a fool."
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself.
"Five years ago, I did everything to save you..."
Before I could finish my sentence, Gu Jing Shen suddenly interrupted me.
"Enough! Lin Wantang, I don't want to hear your excuses! Do you think I would believe your nonsense?"
He turned and walked away, his back resolute.
Watching him leave, my heart ached like it was being torn apart.
I wanted to tell him the truth, but I couldn't.
Because I was dying.
I didn't want him to feel sad for me, nor did I want him to carry guilt for the rest of his life.
All I wanted was for him to live well and be happy with Su Nian. That was my final wish.
Slowly, I crouched down and picked up the design sketches from the ground.
The blood had dried, leaving dark red stains on the pure white wedding dress.
I gently traced those stains, as if caressing my own shattered heart.
Suddenly, a wave of dizziness hit me, and darkness enveloped my vision as I lost consciousness.
When I slowly opened my eyes again, I found myself lying in a hospital bed.
The air was thick with the smell of disinfectant, sharp and unpleasant.
Turning my head, I saw Gu Jing Shen sitting by the bedside, his expression terrifyingly grim.
"You're awake?" he said coldly, his voice devoid of any warmth.
I opened my mouth to say something but couldn't make a sound.
My throat was parched, feeling as if it had been scorched by fire.
Gu Jing Shen seemed to notice my discomfort. He stood up, poured a glass of water, and handed it to me.
I struggled to sit up, but my body felt weak and heavy.
He frowned slightly, reaching out to support my shoulder and help me up.
His touch was gentle and careful.
I felt a bit dazed, as if I had been transported back five years.
Back then, we were still deeply in love.
He always took care of me with such attentiveness.
But now…
I lowered my head, unable to meet his gaze.
I feared that I would be unable to hold back and reveal everything to him.
I was afraid I would cry and beg him not to leave me.
More than anything, I dreaded the thought of seeing that look of disgust in his eyes again.
Silently, I took the cup from him and drank all the water in one go.
The warm liquid flowed down my throat, quenching my thirst but failing to extinguish the bitterness in my heart.
“Lin Wantang, what exactly do you want?” Gu Jing Shen's voice broke through my memories, pulling me back to reality.
I lifted my head to look at him, my eyes filled with helplessness and sorrow.
“I… I just want to help you,” I said softly, my voice hoarse.
Gu Jing Shen let out a cold laugh. “Help me? Lin Wantang, do you really think I would believe your nonsense?”
He stepped closer, his eyes filled with anger and disdain.
"Do you think I don't know what you're thinking? You're jealous of Su Nian, and you wish she were dead!"
I looked at him and suddenly found it quite ridiculous.
I had given him everything, even sacrificing my own life.
But what about him?
He always thought of me as a cold-hearted and vicious woman.
"Gu Jing Shen, have you ever considered why I was at the Fire Scene five years ago?" I looked into his eyes and asked each word deliberately.
Gu Jing Shen paused for a moment, seemingly caught off guard by my question.
He furrowed his brow, a hint of confusion flashing in his eyes.
"Wasn't it you who started the fire?"
I laughed, tears streaming down my face.
"Gu Jing Shen, you really are a fool."
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself.
"Five years ago, I risked everything to save you..."
Before I could finish my sentence, Gu Jing Shen suddenly interrupted me.
